City of Portland prepares for earthquake response.

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — The City of Portland is testing its emergency response to a major earthquake.

The statewide exercise is called Iron-OR 24, and cities across Oregon are participating in a two-day earthquake simulation exercise.

“We’re in that timeframe where we could experience another one at any time, so we’re getting ready,” said Amanda Westervelt, Operations Coordinator at the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management.

Powerful 6.0 magnitude earthquake rocks the coast of Oregon

A powerful 6.0-magnitude earthquake rattled the coast of Oregon Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.

The quake struck about 180 miles from Coos Bay around 1:15 p.m. local time, the US Geological Survey said.
