From personal experience, Anon, sometimes purple text happens by accident. I happen to talk a lot and write a lot, but when I do I try to use punctuation where appropriate.
Sometimes I type things so quickly, and I want to use double dashes to offset certain text, and then I hit "reply" and the text comes up purple.
Why?
Because the code on this Board, for creating purple text, is to put two dashes (without space) before and after the text you want to make appear purple.
To avoid this I've since tried to remember to put spaces in between my double-dashes or, even better, just not talk to damned much.
But the point is that whenever you see purple text here, please remember that it might be something that the writer had been trying to offset, from the rest of the text, with double dashes.

Yup, yup, you get it. Just to show you how much I love those dashes, and hate to have mistakes with them (IRL or even here), I have a huge "MACROS" document that I use for everything, where I tuck the things I want to use over and over.
Macros are useful things you can save and then re-create with the mere entry of a few keystrokes (whatever you choose to call the macro) and then a hitting of the "F3" key. Then, viola, your pre-typed text appears.
Well, this accidental purple text problem became so frustrating for me that I actually created an em-dash macro to have on hand, 'cause the purple text drives me nutso, too.
I hope that all helps.
Sorry to chat so much.
Back to work.
