President Trump Selects Senior Campaign Advisor Susie Wiles for White House Chief of Staff Role
November 7, 2024 | Sundance | 33 Comments
The first selection by President Trump, highlighting his team to enter the White House, has been made. President Trump selects Susie Wiles to be his Chief of Staff in the White House. Mrs Wiles will be the first White House Chief of Staff in history.
“Susie is tough, smart, innovative, and is universally admired and respected. Susie will continue to work tirelessly to Make America Great Again,” Trump said in a statement. “It is a well-deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history. I have no doubt that she will make our country proud.”
(Via AP) – Successful chiefs of staff serve as the president’s confidant, help execute a president’s agenda and balance competing political and policy priorities. They also tend to serve as a gatekeeper, helping determine whom the president spends his time with and whom he speaks to — an effort Trump chafed under inside the White House.
Wiles is a longtime Florida-based Republican strategist who ran Trump’s campaigns in the state in 2016 and 2020. Before that, she ran Rick Scott’s 2010 campaign for Florida governor and briefly served as the manager of former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman’s 2012 presidential campaign. (link)
(Via Politico) – “A veteran of Florida politics, Wiles directed Trump’s campaign to victory in the state in 2016. She also helped lead Ron DeSantis’ 2018 campaign for Florida governor, before a falling out that prompted the Florida governor to successfully lobby the Trump team to fire her. Wiles was brought back shortly thereafter for the 2020 campaign in Florida.
Despite having little experience in the nation’s capital, Wiles will become the White House’s envoy to the sprawling executive branch agencies and to Congress. She has not worked in Washington in decades, since her time in Ronald Reagan’s Labor Department, in Reagan’s White House as a scheduler and on Capitol Hill for the late Rep. Jack Kemp (R-N.Y). (link)
Mrs Wiles was basically responsible for controlling the access to candidate Donald Trump in the 2024 campaign. Her time away from DC politics is potentially both a negative and a net positive. Heck, Ron DeSantis didn’t like her, but rumors are they made amends.
While I doubt Mrs Wiles understands the nature of the fourth branch of government, she will likely be a critical advisor to President Trump despite the fringe right elements of the MAGA movement predictably about to go bananas. Anyone wanting to work for President Trump will now go through the filter of Wiles.
