I used to carry one on horse back all the time, We hunted with it, protected cattle from coyotes, man and everything else. A good reliable pistol for close range in also suggested.

Perfect age for a good gun. 50's-70's, any earlier, and it's a collectors item, any laters and the metals start to get iffy. 80's guns are still pretty good though. I'd stop at the 90's
Yeah, if I were hunting bear or big bull elk, I'd probably want a 7mm with or something.
But if I'm gonna hunt, it's not going to be bear, and cow elks meat is much better tasting than a big tough bull.
But I also use slingshots because they are silent.
9mm is a great gun. I don't like the chamber kickback on them though. I stick with revolvers
