Israel's Haifa Hit By One Of Largest Hezbollah Rocket Barrages Of War

On Monday the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that at least 90 Hezbollah rockets were fired on the major port city of Haifa in a massive barrage.

A first large wave of 80 rockets was inbound, and the IDF says it intercepted most, and this was followed by a smaller second barrage of ten missiles. This set off sirens across the whole Haifa area. "Damage was caused to homes and cars in Kiryat Ata, and a teenager was slightly hurt by glass shards," Times of Israel reports of the attack.

"It marks one of the largest rocket attacks on the port city amid the fighting with Hezbollah," the report continues. The prior single day's record was as follows: "On October 8, 2024, Hezbollah launched over 100 rockets at Haifa in two barrages."

Elsewhere in northern Israel some 50 rockets were launched from Lebanon towards the upper and western Galilee areas, and many of these were also intercepted, with others falling in open areas.

These missile attacks are ramping up in quantity and intensity even as Biden's regional envoy Amos Hochstein works to achieve a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah:

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said any agreement would have to include enforcement mechanisms to prevent Hezbollah from reconstituting its military infrastructure near the border.

"There is certain progress on the issue. We are working with the Americans," he told reporters.

But Hezbollah is unlikely to agree to anything seen as pushing back Lebanese sovereign territory, even if a buffer zone is patrolled by an international peacekeeping force.

The Israeli army is meanwhile continuing to issue forced evacuation orders for parts of southern Lebanon. It is calling on the civilian population to move north of the Awali River.

The order was addressed to the towns of Sheheen, al-Jebbayn, Tayr Harfa, Abu Shash, Beit Shama, Majdal Zoun, al-Mansouri, Zebqin, Rashidieh, Barghliyeh, Qasmiyeh, al-Bayyaada, Naqoura, Bint Jbeil, Ainata, Kounine, Aitaroun, Taybeh, Rab Thalathin, Markaba, and Bani Hayyan.

The Lebanese government and humanitarian groups have complained that these tactics amount to a forced military cleansing of territory - given that anyone remaining is then deemed an armed militant and can be killed.

But in northern Israel, some 80,000 Israeli residents have remained forcibly evacuated from their homes for over a year, due to the constant threat of Hezbollah rockets and drones.

According to Syria’s SANA state-run news agency, the “Israeli enemy launched an aerial act of aggression from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan.” It said the strike had targeted a residential building in the Sayyidah Zaynab, killing several civilians, including women and children.

In a statement on Monday, foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei “vehemently condemned Sunday’s aggressive attack by the Zionist regime,” and accused international bodies of turning a blind eye to alleged Israeli strikes.

Baghaei also urged the international community to “take practical and effective measures against the Zionist regime, including imposing an arms embargo, expelling the regime from the United Nations, and prosecuting and punishing its leaders.”

He said Israel routinely targets Syrian, Lebanese and Palestinian territory with impunity because it enjoys the “unconditional support” of the US and “certain European nations.” He described those countries as “accomplices in the genocide and war crimes committed” by Israel in Gaza and elsewhere in the region.

Kremlin Says Reports That Trump Spoke To Putin Are 'Pure Fiction', Didn't Happen

On Sunday The Washington Post reported that President-elect Donald Trump held his first phone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin since being elected, saying it focused on achieving peace in Ukraine. The call supposedly happened from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Thursday.

"During the call, which Trump took from his resort in Florida, he advised the Russian president not to escalate the war in Ukraine and reminded him of Washington’s sizable military presence in Europe," WaPo wrote, citing several sources.

But the Kremlin is denying that any of this happened. It is saying the call didn't even take place. Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov blasted the Post report as "pure fiction" and said that currently there are no plans for the Russian president to speak to Trump.

"This is completely untrue. This is pure fiction, it’s just false information. There was no conversation," Peskov told reporters in a briefing.

"This is the most obvious example of the quality of the information that is being published now, sometimes even in fairly reputable publications," Peskov added.

He was asked if there are any plans of Putin to soon speak to Trump or be in contact, to which Peskov responded that "There are no concrete plans yet."

Asked about the purported Trump-Putin call, Steven Cheung, Trump's communications director, said: "We do not comment on private calls between President Trump and other world leaders."

The Robert Koch Institute (“RKI”) is a German federal government agency and research institute responsible for disease control and prevention. Located in Berlin and Wernigerode, it advises the specialist public and government on preventing and tackling infectious disease outbreaks.

The trove of documents reveals that RKI knew the covid response was not based on science but were political decisions to spread fear, control the population and promote the experimental “vaccines.”

In 2023, documents were obtained through legal action under the Freedom of Information Act. The files show that politicians ordered the experts to make up stories and narratives so as to support the government’s preconceived measures. These documents are referred to as the RKI Files. “Internally, RKI experts thought FFP2 masks were useless and believed that vaccines would not stop the virus spread. Earlier this month, Prof. Homberg presented what is being referred to as the RKI Leaks in the Bundestag. “The RKI Leaks encompasses much more [than the RKI Files], he said. “Namely, all protocols, not just some of them.”

And we obtained a lot of additional material such as letters, for example, a letter from President Macron to Germany, suggesting both countries conduct lockdowns in a similar fashion. We also got Excel sheets, emails, PowerPoint presentations and so on,” he said.

Rescue workers are still in the area looking for more survivors, and the toll has not been finalized. At least six survivors were reported as wounded. Almat is in a region that is strongly majority Maronite Christian, but the village’s own population is majority Shi’ite Muslim.

Israel has yet to comment on the strike on the village, but security officials reported to the AFP that an unnamed Hezbollah member was visiting one of the attacked homes. He apparently died of his wounds, along with a lot of other people.

Locals, including a man whose home was destroyed today, said civilians displaced from the Baalbek Province had relocated to Almat. It isn’t clear where the displaced will go now, or where the dozens of residents who lost homes in today’s attack will relocate.

The Israeli attacks on Sunday have killed at least 38 people in Lebanon. In addition to the 23 killed in Almat, at least 12 were reported killed in the latest strikes on Baalbek. Thus far three were reported slain in smaller strikes elsewhere.

Netanyahu's Ethnic Cleansing in Gaza Is on Display for All to See

The Israeli military is conducting an ethnic cleansing operation in the northern Gaza Strip. The few Palestinians remaining in the area are being forcibly evacuated, homes and infrastructure have been destroyed, and wide roads in the area are being built and completing the separation of the communities in the northern Strip from the center of Gaza City. "The area looks like it was hit by a natural disaster," Haaretz military correspondent Yaniv Kubovich concluded after a tour with Israeli forces there last week.

What Kubovich saw, however, was not a natural disaster but rather a premeditated act of human destruction. A senior IDF officer, identified by London's The Guardian newspaper as Brig. Gen. Itzik Cohen, the commander of the 162nd Division, explained to reporters: "There is no intention of allowing the residents of the northern Gaza Strip to return to their homes."

The officer said the vast majority of residents of the area's communities (Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia, Al-Attatra, Jabalya) have already evacuated. "We received very clear orders," the officer said. "My task is to create a cleansed space. … We are moving the population for its protection, in order to create freedom of action for our forces."

The officer was asked if the army is carrying out the "Generals' Plan" conceived by Maj. Gen. (ret.) Giora Eiland and a few of his fellow retired commanders to expel the Palestinians from the northern Gaza Strip while withholding humanitarian aid from and starving those who remain, who would be considered Hamas militants and therefore legitimate military targets. "I don't know what the Generals' Plan is, I have no idea what it is," the other replied, "We are acting on the instructions of the [IDF's] Southern Command and chief of staff."

He said that his division delivers humanitarian aid "toward the south," outside of the "cleansed zone" in the northern Strip, where Israel does not allow food, water and medicine. "The IDF is a moral and ethical army," the officer concluded. "We operate in this area … to allow the population to move south, while at times almost endangering our own lives."

It's important to call things by their name: Eiland may have sold these ideas to the public, but the "cleansing of the space" in northern Gaza is carried out by the IDF under the direction of its commanders, starting with Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzl Halevi and Southern Command chief Maj. Gen. Yaron Finkelman, who are subordinate to the directives of the political leadership: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the recently fired Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and his successor, Israel Katz.
