Nov. 11, 2024
An unauthorized party at an on-campus Tuskegee University apartment ended in horror early Sunday morning as dozens of gunshots rang out at the historically Black university, leaving one person dead and another 16 injured.
The shooting came as Tuskegee’s 100th Homecoming Week was winding down. Its football team that Saturday had played Fairfield-based HBCU Miles College.
It is not clear yet what led to the shooting, which sent a large crowd scrambling and was captured on several videos posted on social media.
The severity of the injuries suffered by the 12 gunshot victims and the four others hurt in the ensuing chaos is also unknown.
Who are the suspects?
No one has been charged in Johnson’s death or with injuring the 16 people hurt in the incident.
On Sunday, 25-year-old Jaquez Myrick, of Montgomery, was arrested for being in possession of a handgun with a machine gun conversion device. Authorities said Myrick was found leaving the scene of the shooting and charged federally with possession of a machine gun.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, which is handling the investigation, is asking for the public’s assistance in this case.
