She's saying they had a good reason to do it.
Point of use solar. A no brainer as panel prices come down and efficiency goes up.
1000s of solar panels just north of Alamosa CO.
The Alamosa Solar Generating Plant is a 35.3 MWp (30.0 MWAC) concentrator photovoltaics (CPV) power station, the largest in the world when it was completed, in May 2012. [1] [2] It is currently the world's third largest operating CPV facility.[3] The output is being sold to Public Service of Colorado, a subsidiary of Xcel Energy, under a long term Power Purchase Agreement.[4]

One of the coldest, windiest places on the planet.
Good for growing potatoes, but that's about it.
Construction was financed in September 2011 by a special purpose subsidiary of the Goldman Sachs Group's Cogentrix Energy Power Management with a US$90.6 million loan that is guaranteed by the U.S. Department of Energy.[8] The facility became operational less than 9 months later in April 2012. In August 2016, Cogentrix sold the project for US$35 million to Korea Electric Power Corporation and its COPA pension fund, both of which are majority held by the South Korean government.[9] [10] Cogentrix Services continues to operate and maintain the facility.

If we don't do it, somebody else will.
CPV Solar is different than regular solar panels.

Guess what, they WILL be electric, so get over your fear of electric cars.
Point of use solar with grid back up (grid supplemented with solar input) is where we are headed..
There will still be a need for traditional energy (coal, nat gas, nuclear) but hydro and solar will become more and more popular, especially out West where vast unused deserts are.
PS, I was a Master Electrician who started a company called Off The Grid back in 1999
In housing, I'm fine with the grid being the back up battery.
In transportation, charging systems will be embedded in roadways, decreasing the size of battery systems.
