Maid doctors are mostly, if not all, female.

For Wiebe, medical assistance in dying (MAID) is “incredibly rewarding” work. She hasn’t faced nearly the same sort of stigma she once faced as an abortion provider and says that while she and her MAID colleagues “all work within the law,” she’s also not as “conservative” as some.

Dr Stefanie Green is a Vancouver-based physician, a MAID assessor, and the author of This is Assisted Dying: A Doctor’s Story of Empowering Patients at the End of Life. She has been working on the front lines of medical assistance in dying since it was made legal in Canada six years ago, and is all too familiar with the negative press that often concerns her work.
