Breaking: newly tabulated Merced Co. ballots cut #CA13 Rep. John Duarte's (R) lead from 1,564 votes to just 227 votes. This is going down to the wire, and an Adam Gray (D) win would cost the GOP another House seat.
Merced Co. estimates another 3,182 ballots left to tabulate, and if they break like the last batch did, Gray (D) would take the lead. Also several thousand votes left to count across Stanislaus, San Joaquin, Madera and Fresno parts of #CA13 that could tip the balance.

Three are dead because of Democrat no-bail policy
Yesterday, a madman on a stabbing spree mortally wounded three New Yorkers, who succumbed to their injuries. According to the New York Post and New York Daily News, the alleged perpetrator is a 51-year-old New York City shelter resident with a troubling criminal history that includes at least eight prior arrestsâmany for feloniesâand at least one open case. Once again, New Yorkers find themselves asking the same dismal question suggested by Mayor Eric Adams, who spoke at a press conference after the attacks: What the hell was this guy doing on the street?
After all, per the Daily News, the triple-murder suspect was booked a month ago for stealing a bowl priced at nearly $1,500. Rather than getting hit with a felony grand larceny charge and remanded to pretrial detention, or held on bail, he was charged with petit larceny and released. Before that incident, he received more than a yearâs worth of jail sentences in August and September for prior instances of assault and burglary. So: Why was he on the street?
The answer is simple: bad policies. In 2020, New York Stateâs bail and discovery reforms took effect. The bail reform made it so that nearly all accused criminals in the state would be released pretrial rather than held in detention, and it did so while strengthening the prohibition on judges considering public-safety risk when making release decisions. The discovery reform amounted to a massive unfunded compliance burden on prosecutors, which has led to skyrocketing dismissal rates. The following year, Alvin Bragg, who campaigned on promises to cut incarceration, bring fewer cases, and enact broad non-prosecution policies, was elected as Manhattan D.A.
These were just three of many missteps by New York City and State leaders seeking to go easier on criminals and harder on cops. Others include the state-level reforms to juvenile justice, police powers, and parole violations. Then there are city council initiatives like the diaphragm law, the Right To Know Act, and the How Many Stops Act. Then you have the administrative-policy reforms enacted by the cityâs two âprogressiveâ district attorneys, Eric Gonzalez (Brooklyn) and Bragg. Donât forget the shuttering of more than a dozen state prisons, the reduction in long-term inpatient mental-health beds throughout the state, the judges who canât keep their finger off the âreleaseâ button, or the ongoing federal monitorships of the NYPD and New York City Department of Correction, neither seemingly able to hire or keep enough officers to meet demand at present.
Yesterdayâs stabbing spree is the type of tragedy that should outrage an electorate already fed up with the elevated crime and disorder since 2020. Many New Yorkers have experienced the chaos firsthand: the maniac in the throes of a schizophrenic break terrorizing a subway car, a gang of masked teenagers blocking traffic and menacing drivers, or addicts slumped in a heroin haze outside the local playground. Itâs maddeningâbut these are political problems, which means they have political solutions.
Earlier this month, many New Yorkers made their frustration known at the polls, helping to elect Donald J. Trump, who pledged to get tough on urban crime and disorder. Trump garnered nearly 95,000 more votes across New York Cityâs five boroughs in 2024 than he did in 2020. Yet, national elections wonât really fix problems born in Albany, City Hall, the courts, and the offices of district attorneysânone of whom was on the ballot.
Despite New Yorkâs deep-blue leanings, thereâs hope for a course correction. Blue states and cities like California, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington, D.C., have recently made strides toward addressing crime. This yearâs elections were especially promising for anti-crime voters. New Yorkers should take note. Without serious policy shifts from progressive politicians, New Yorkers face a harsh reality: dangerous individuals will continue to roam the streets and subways at rates far higher than before. And weâre on our ownâthereâs no Batman coming to save us. Even if there were, Alvin Bragg would probably put him in prison.

Similar incident of severed comm line in 2022 by a Chinese ship departing from a Russian port
A day after the C-Lion1 and BCS subsea data cables in the Baltic Sea, connecting Finland and Germany as well as Sweden and Lithuania, were damaged, specifics of the incident remain unconfirmed.
The incident is reminiscent of a similar event in 2023 when the Balticonnector between Finland and Estonia was damaged. Hong Kong-registered container vessel NewNew Polar Bear was later found to have dragged its anchor across the pipeline.
Danish authorities appear to have narrowed down a possible culprit to Chinese bulker Yi Peng 3, which traveled over the reported incident site at the time of the failure. Its AIS track shows the vessel drifting back and forth for around an hour the morning of November 18.
By the time Yi Peng 3 reached Danish waters the countryâs Navy had dispatched several vessels shadowing the vessel. Online reports suggest that a Danish pilot was placed onboard the vessel during the afternoon of November 19 as it continued passing through Danish Straits.
AIS data show several Danish patrol vessels in the vicinity of Yi Peng 3 and shorebased webcams confirm Navy vessels loosely following in its wake.
The foreign ministers of Germany and Finland issued a joint statement expressing concern about the incident. âThe fact that such an incident immediately raises suspicions of intentional damage speaks volumes about the volatility of our times,â the statement reads.
âA thorough investigation is underway. Our European security is not only under threat from Russiaâs war of aggression against Ukraine, but also from hybrid warfare by malicious actors. Safeguarding our shared critical infrastructure is vital to our security and the resilience of our societies,â the statement continued.
Incidents with damage to subsea cables and pipelines across Europe have increased in recent years, including in the Arctic. In 2022 Norway reported that an undersea fiber optic cable connecting a satellite ground station on Svalbard to the Norwegian mainland was severed. Norwegian media reported a Russian vessel traveling back and forth several times over the damaged section.
The Finnish investigation of the NewNew Polar Bear incident concluded that the vessel dropped its anchor during a storm dragging it over the Balticonnector pipeline. The vessel had been spotted with a missing anchor during its first port call following the incident.
After initial stonewalling by Chinese authorities Finnish counterparts launched their own investigation and eventually admitted that the pipelineâs damage was caused by NewNew Polar Bear. Like Yi Peng 3, NewNew Polar Bear had departed from a Russian port prior to the incident.
