Border Patrol agents in South Texas arrested three unaccompanied minors being used by Mexican cartels to smuggle marijuana across the Rio Grande River. The actions are indicative of the types of abuses put upon Central American juveniles who are being put through the human smuggling process.

Border Patrol Discovers 20 Migrants Packed into Cargo Truck in South Texas

Human smugglers packed 20 illegal immigrants into the back of a tractor-trailer rig in South Texas.

Laredo Sector Border Patrol agents assigned to the Hebbronville Station observed a tractor-trailer approaching the FM 1017 immigration checkpoint early Tuesday morning. As the driver presented himself for inspection by the agents, a K-9 agent alerted to the presence of drugs or human cargo, according to Laredo Sector officials.

A secondary inspection of the trailer revealed 20 illegal immigrants hiding inside the trailer. The agents checked out the illegal immigrants and determined they were in good health after being locked in the trailer with no air circulation.

San Francisco Opens Non-Citizen Voting in School Board Elections

San Francisco’s Department of Elections has begun registering non-U.S. citizens to vote in the city’s school board elections.

As Bay Area public radio station KQED reported, San Francisco voters passed Proposition N in 2016, giving non-citizens the ability to vote in some local elections. Similar measures had failed on two previous attempts.

Non-citizen voting in school board elections has also been approved in Chicago, Illinois, and Cambridge, Massachusets, according to CBS San Francisco.
