Britain and France discussing deployment of troops to Ukraine – Le Monde

The idea of direct Western participation in the conflict is reportedly back on the table, according to the newspaper

The UK and France have “reactivated” talks on sending troops to Ukraine, French newspaper Le Monde reported on Monday. The idea has already caused a rift among Europe’s NATO members.

Back in February, French President Emmanuel Macron caused controversy by declaring his willingness to send ground troops to Ukraine “to prevent Russia from winning this war.” The statement was quickly disavowed by NATO officials, while German Chancellor Olaf Scholz told reporters that Ukraine’s Western backers were “unanimous” in their opposition to the idea.

The plan was seemingly shelved, Le Monde has reported, until British Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited Paris earlier this month. Citing anonymous sources, the French newspaper claimed that talks on a possible Franco-British deployment to Ukraine were “reactivated” by Starmer and Macron.

No further information was provided, and Le Monde speculated that this deployment could range from both nations sending private-sector technicians to repair military equipment (as Britain already does), to private military contractors (as Russia insists that France does), to flag-wearing personnel on the ground, either on the front line or to enforce an eventual ceasefire and peace deal.

British and French officials have both suggested that some sort of deployment could be in the works. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot told British state broadcaster the BBC this weekend that Paris is “not ruling out any option” when asked directly about the possibility of sending French troops to Ukraine.

A British military source told Le Monde that “discussions are underway between the United Kingdom and France regarding defense cooperation, particularly with the aim of creating a core group of allies in Europe, focused on Ukraine and broader European security.”

Russia has long claimed that Western special forces personnel are active in Ukraine, and Russian President Valdimir Putin has noted that Ukraine cannot fire long-range missiles into Russian territory without the assistance of Western experts.

When American ATACMS and British Storm Shadow missiles were used in attacks on internationally-recognized Russian territory last week, Putin warned that the Ukraine conflict had “assumed elements of a global nature.”

Russia unleashes coordinated wave of strikes on Ukrainian facilities – MOD

Airfields and critical infrastructure were reportedly struck in a major offensive targeting Kiev’s rear positions

Russia has conducted coordinated multiple strikes on critical Ukrainian military and dual-use infrastructure, including airfields and energy facilities, the Defense Ministry in Moscow announced on Monday.

The strike involved operational-tactical aviation, various drones, missiles and artillery, the Russian military said. Apart from airfields and energy facilities used to supply “enterprises of the military-industrial complex of Ukraine,” some 138 Ukrainian military sites used to amass troops and hardware in the rear were also struck, according to the ministry.

While the Russian military did not specify the exact targets, Ukrainian media reports suggested that Kiev, the southern port city of Odessa, the eastern city of Kharkov, among other locations were affected. According to Ukrainian estimates, the attack involved more than 100 Geran-2 kamikaze drones.

The new strike comes as the two belligerents have seemingly ramped up long-range attacks against each other. Kiev’s recent use of long-range systems, such as the American ATACMS and British Storm Shadow missiles, prompted Moscow to use its brand new Oreshnik hypersonic ballistic missile.

The new munition was combat-tested last week and used for a surprise strike on Yuzhmash, a sprawling Soviet-era plant located in the city of Dnepropetrovsk (known as Dnipro in Ukraine). The factory, which prior to the conflict produced primarily aircraft engines and missile components, had been actively used as of late by Kiev to refurbish and repair assorted military hardware.

Israel's New Defense Chief Has Decided: It's Officially Apartheid

The decision by new Defense Minister Israel Katz to halt the use of detention without trial against Jewish settlers living in the West Bank is apartheid by all accounts: One law for Jews and another for Palestinians.

Administrative detention is a draconian tool that has no place in a democratic country. It harms a basic right by violating the detainee's access to an essential part of due process, based on secret evidence and sometimes even without the detainee's knowledge of what he or she is accused of.

In democratic countries, people should be detained and tried only on the basis of sufficient evidence, while administrative detention should be reserved for defined emergency situations.

But Katz has no problem making use of administrative detention. He didn't decide to halt the practice outright (currently over 3,000 people are held in administrative detention) but only to halt its use against Jews in the occupied territories (currently there are eight such people held in administrative detention). Katz is leaving this draconian tool for the authorities to use against Palestinians. He's simply working to adapt enforcement in the territories to fit the dominant belief among the right wing that there is no such thing as Jewish terror.

In his decision, Katz is sending a clear message to the Jewish agitators in the West Bank: Do whatever you feel like, you're beyond the law. The Palestinians' blood is for the taking. This is a greenlight for Jewish terror, an adrenaline shot for the next lynch mob.

The decision is also a message to the Israel Defense Forces. It's not for nothing that lawmaker Gadi Eisenkot quickly warned against the dangerous implications of Katz's decision. "The defense minister's decision is a serious and dangerous error, an additional step toward a serious escalation in the West Bank that we will all pay for," he said. "It will first off harm the mission of the IDF as the sovereign supplying security, law enforcement and order in the West Bank."

In less formal words, Katz's message to the IDF is as follows: Don't touch the "hilltop youth." In the territories, the settlers are the sovereign, and the IDF is their security company vis-à-vis the Palestinians, who are being left to their fates. Indeed, the message was received immediately. On Friday, dozens of Jewish rioters tried to attack Central District commander Avi Balut during a Shabbat event in Hebron. The rioters chased him and offers who were with him, calling him "traitor" and "troubler of Israel."

Katz's appointment was designed to weaken the IDF, strengthen the extreme right and the settlers and give a middle finger to the entire world, including the International Criminal Court. Katz hasn't been in his new position even a month and has already proved that he's an excellent demolition contractor. If Israel doesn't quickly rein in its government, it will discover that there's a new low awaiting it in the dock at The Hague.

29 Killed as Israel Levels Central Beirut Apartment With Bunker Buster Bomb

Over 70 others wounded; strike came without warning in the middle of the night

The building was on Mamoun Street in the Basta al-Fawqa. The attack came at about 4:00 AM, and the explosion was so powerful it was felt all across the Lebanese capital city. At least 29 people have been killed, and over 70 wounded. Rescue operations are still ongoing.

The use of a bunker buster bomb on a plainly civilian target seems excessive, and it’s not clear why Israel chose this unassuming building in the crowded center of Beirut to hit with such powerful weaponry. Israel has not publicly commented on the matter.

Israel Attacks Kill 155 Palestinians in Gaza Over 72 Hours

Israel again targeted the Kamal Adwan Hospital and injured its director

Israeli strikes on Sunday included attacks on the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza and in the Jabalia refugee camp in the north, which has been under a total siege since early October as part of an ethnic cleansing campaign. The Israeli military issued a new evacuation order for Shejaiya, an eastern suburb of Gaza City, resulting in more forced displacement of Palestinian civilians.

Israeli forces again targeted the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Beith Lahia, another city that’s been under total siege. The shelling wounded the hospital director, Dr. Hussam Abu Safia, who has been drawing attention to the siege by releasing video statements and talking to media outlets.

Netanyahu effigy burned at anti-Israel protest in Montreal; Trudeau condemns antisemitism

Windows smashed, cars burned, police attacked in huge protest against NATO conference, denouncing alliance’s support of Israel; Jewish group: Jewish Canadians again felt unsafe in country

The Canadian prime minister was one of several officials to condemn the protest, which opposed a NATO conference on Friday night and after which three protesters were arrested.

It was one of a series of anti-Israel actions in recent days that have led to fallout in the Quebec metropolis, from the shuttering of a cafe in the city’s Jewish General Hospital to the cancelation of an Israeli-made film at a local festival.

“What we saw on the streets of Montreal last night was appalling,” Trudeau said in a statement on Saturday. “Acts of antisemitism, intimidation, and violence must be condemned wherever we see them.”

ATACMS Missiles Struck Russian Military Airfield In Kursk Region

On the night of November 25th, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched another attack with Western missiles in the Russian rear region. At night, Russian Khalino military airfield in the Kursk region was attacked by ATACMS cluster missiles.

The footage shared online showed the explosions of the M74 munition in the area of the airfield.

The videos filmed by the local residents confirmed that at least two missiles reached the ground. According to some reports, one of them was intercepted and fell in the area away from the airfield as seen on the video. Some reports claimed that five missiles struck the air base. Earlier, Russian military sources reported that eight missiles targeted the Kursk region and seven of them were destroyed.

The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that over the past eight ballistic missiles, six US-made JDAM guided aerial bombs and 45 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down by Russian air defense forces, but they include those destroyed in the Donbass regions.

The attack on the Khalino military airfield is another political act of the Kiev regime. According to preliminary reports, the strikes resulted in no significant damage. There was reportedly no aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces deployed at the airfield located close to the frontlines. The Russian military was building concrete fortification for the aircraft there.

The Russian military is well aware that military airfields in the Western regions are one of the most favorable targets for NATO missiles in Russian rear. Amid the threat of missile strike, the Aerospace Forces almost do not use military airfields in the tactical rear regions but there are still several strategically important air bases that can be reached by the strikes.

This is the third confirmed attack of the NATO missiles in the Russian rear regions after Kiev was allowed to launch them. And this is the first strike after the Russian military launched its Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile capable of carrying nuclear units. Washington and its puppets in Europe responded that the deployment of Oreshnik would not stop Ukrainian strikes with their missiles. That’s why Ukrainians should wait for more devastating retaliation strikes to come.

Florida Telecommunications and Information Technology Worker Sentenced for Conspiring to Act as Agent of Chinese Government

Ping Li, 59, of Wesley Chapel, Florida, was sentenced to 48 months in prison today for conspiring to act as an agent of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) without notification to the Attorney General. Li was further ordered to pay a fine of $250,000 and to serve three years of supervised release.

According to the plea agreement and other court filings, the PRC’s Ministry of State Security (MSS) is in charge of civilian intelligence collection for the PRC. The MSS often uses “cooperative contacts” located in countries outside of the PRC in furtherance of their intelligence goals, which include obtaining information concerning foreign corporate or industrial matters, foreign politicians or intelligence officers, and information concerning PRC political dissidents residing in those countries. These cooperative contacts assist the MSS in a variety of ways, including by conducting research on topics of interest to the PRC that can be used to further the MSS’s mission.

Li is a U.S. citizen who immigrated to the United States from the PRC. At various times, Li worked for a major U.S. telecommunications company and an international information technology company.

Li admitted that, from at least as early as 2012, he served as a cooperative contact working at the direction of officers of the MSS to obtain information of interest to the PRC government. Li obtained a wide variety information at the request of the MSS, including information concerning Chinese dissidents and pro-democracy advocates, members of the Falun Gong religious movement, and U.S.-based non-governmental organizations, and reported that information to the MSS. Li also provided the MSS with information obtained from his employer. Li used a variety of anonymous online accounts for the purpose of communicating with the MSS, and traveled to the PRC to meet with the MSS.

For example, in August 2012, an MSS officer requested that Li provide information about practitioners of Falun Gong and pro-democracy advocates in the United States. Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a religious movement that originated in the PRC in the 1990s. Falun Gong is not one of the five religions formally recognized by the PRC government, and it has been banned since 1999. Its adherents both in China and abroad are of particular interest to the PRC government because of Falun Gong’s advocacy of ideas deemed subversive to the PRC government. Less than a week after receiving this request, Li sent the name and biographical information of an individual affiliated with Falun Gong residing in St. Petersburg, Florida.

In March 2015, an MSS officer requested information from Li about branch offices that Li’s employer, a major U.S. telecommunications company, had opened in the PRC. Li responded with the requested information three weeks later.

In March 2017, an MSS officer requested a training instruction plan from Li. In April 2017, Li responded indicating that he had uploaded materials to an online account that he shared with the MSS officer and asked the MSS officer to delete the materials after reading them.

In May 2021, an MSS officer requested information from Li concerning hacking events targeting U.S. companies, including a widely publicized hacking of a major U.S. company by the Chinese government. Within four days, Li responded with the requested information.

US Blacklists 29 Chinese Companies Over Forced Labor

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Nov. 22 blacklisted 29 Chinese companies over the use of forced labor, bringing the total to 107. The companies produced a wide range of goods, from foods to pharmaceuticals to gold and technology.

“Forced labor is a violation of basic human rights,” Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas said in a statement. “The United States is making progress towards the eradication of forced labor while supporting economic fairness, safeguarding human rights, and holding perpetrators accountable.”

Since the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) went into effect in 2022, the United States has sought to eliminate forced labor from its supply chains.

The law is named after the Uyghur Muslims of Xinjiang, a group that international investigations have found to be subjected to forced labor by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The group has also been targeted for persecution by the regime.

“Today’s enforcement actions make it clear—the United States will not tolerate forced labor in the goods entering our markets,” Robert Silvers, undersecretary of Homeland Security for Strategy, Policy, and Plans and chair of the Federal Labor Enforcement Task Force. said in a statement.

“The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act is a powerful tool in the fight against forced labor, and we are using it to its full potential. We urge companies to take responsibility, know their supply chains, and act ethically.”

An Interaction with Eric Zuesse on Jewish Subversive Movements (Major Update)

Thomas Fleming: FDR ultimately “seduced America into the war with clever tricks, one-step-forward one-step-back double-talk, and the last-resort provocation of Japan. Deceit had been at the heart of the process.”

JEA: I have been reading Eric’s articles for quite some time and have published many of them on Veterans Today. I greatly appreciate his work. However, one thing that continues to surprise me is that Eric has specifically avoided mentioning the neoconservative movement as a Jewish movement in any of his work. To my knowledge, I have not seen an article where Eric directly addresses the issue of Jewish subversive movements. My simple question is: why? Help us unravel this mystery, Eric.

EZ: Jonas, I am no more interested in “Jewish subversive movements” than I am in “Christian subversive movements” or “Muslim subversive movements,” or etc., because a religion is a category of people who believe in a particular Scripture as being sourced from a ‘God’ who is All-Powerful and who also believe that Might makes right, and because all such Scriptures are myths that were created and ultimately canonized by the founders of that particular religion, and because all such Scriptures are dangerous and harmful to base an ethic (or morality) upon, and because all such Scriptures that I have studied are loaded with self-contradictions so that any of its believers can pick and choose which of its statements to base his/her morality upon.

I am instead interested in the actual structure of power within a given society, and this always has to do with, if the society is an aristocracy, the super-rich controlling the Government, or else, if the society is a theocracy, the top clerics controlling the Government, or else, if the society is a democracy, the majority of the residents being honestly informed and controlling the Government. Since you appear to be obsessed with religion or specifically with Judaism, I would point out to you that even if a person is a resident or even a citizen in a theocracy such as Israel or Iran, that individual might be subversive for democracy, and there is then certainly no reason to do as you do and to include that person in the blame for what that theocracy does. I consider doing so to be an example of bigotry.

JEA: Thank you for your response, Eric. I will expand on my thoughts in a future article on Veterans Today. Your comment is intriguing, especially considering that scholars from various disciplines have extensively explored these issues. For example, do you consider Murray Friedman’s study, The Neoconservative Revolution: Jewish Intellectuals and the Shaping of Public Policy (Cambridge University Press, 2006), to be obsessive or bigoted? Would you categorize Murray Friedman as part of the so-called bigotry you mentioned?

Submarine agency hands $9 million AUKUS contract to consultancy firm linked to Chinese military

Consultancy firm McKinsey has been awarded a $9 million contract by the Australian Submarine Agency (ASA) for "management advisory services".

Republican politicians have accused the American company of "equipping America's foremost enemy" by failing to disclose links to the Chinese military.

The agency leading Australia's push to acquire nuclear-powered submarines is paying a global consultancy firm $9 million for "management advisory services" amid claims the American-owned company also worked for the Chinese Communist Party and military.

Tender documents reveal the Australian Submarine Agency (ASA) awarded the lucrative AUKUS contract to the local subsidiary of McKinsey & Company last month, around the same time US legislators were highlighting its links to the People's Liberation Army.

Leading US Republican figures in October unveiled "new evidence" accusing McKinsey & Company of failing to disclose and misrepresenting consulting work for the Chinese government while receiving hundreds of millions to consult for the US military.

The chairman of the US House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, John Moolenaar, along with Republican senators Marco Rubio and Joni Ernst, said McKinsey & Company had "equipped America's foremost adversary".

In an October 17 letter to US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, the politicians warned "McKinsey's activities pose a serious risk to US national security and may have failed to meet McKinsey's obligations under federal law".

"McKinsey has chosen to profit from governments and state-owned enterprises whose goals are fundamentally at odds with US national security interests, economic aims, and fundamental values," the Republicans wrote.

"McKinsey has also previously accessed and used confidential US government information to benefit clients adverse to US interests, likely contributing to the loss of American life."

So far, McKinsey & Company has not responded to the most recent allegations in the United States, while the ABC has approached the ASA for comment but is yet to receive a response.
