“The number of different categories of space weapons that [China has] created and … the speed with which they’re doing it is very threatening,” said Saltzman during a recent visit to NATO and U.S. forces in Europe.

Using the term “space weapons” is very significant. The Outer Space Treaty, which went into effect in 1967, is one of the remaining grand treaties from the Cold War that remains in force. The treaty states, “States shall not place nuclear weapons or other weapons of mass destruction in orbit or on celestial bodies or station them in outer space in any other manner.”

For years, the treaty was often interpreted as meaning that space was to be de-militarized and neutral. However, like the debate over Taiwan, the Chinese regime may be interpreting the treaty in a way that is advantageous to its position. If the regime has a pervasive and effective anti-satellite capability, it may not consider that a “nuclear weapon” or a “weapon of mass destruction.”

Alberta is the highest-ranking Canadian province in terms of economic freedom, and the rest aren’t even even close.

A recent study released by the Fraser Institute found that Alberta ranked 12th for economic freedom among Canada’s ten provinces, America’s 50 states, Mexico’s 32 states, and the US territory of Puerto Rico. Alberta tied with Texas, Tennessee, Colorado, and South Dakota.

The next freest province was British Columbia, ranking 43, tied with Minnesota, Massachusetts, and New Mexico. Although it ranked moderately high on the freedom scale, it was more than three and a half times less economically free than Alberta.

“People are said to have more economic freedom when they are allowed to make more of their own economic choices,” Matthew Mitchell, a senior fellow at the Fraser Institute and the study’s co-author, told True North in an interview.

On Monday, the town of Barrhead, Alberta, voted 57 percent in favor of banning all non-governmental flags and designs from being displayed on public infrastructure, including pro-LGBT 'Pride' rainbow themes.

Residents of a Canadian town have voted in a solid majority to pass a bylaw that will in effect ban pro-LGBT “Pride” themed designs from being displayed on public infrastructure, including such flags on government buildings and rainbow painted crosswalks.

Some 1,145 votes were cast in a Barrhead, Alberta, plebiscite this past Monday which saw 57 percent of residents vote for the ban, with 43 percent voting against it.

The results of the Neutral Space Bylaw were posted on the town’s official website, which explained that the new regulation mandates that crosswalks are only painted in the standard white striped pattern between two parallel lines. The bylaw also stipulates that only the Canadian, Albertan, and town flag can fly on public buildings.

“There will be no decorations on town crosswalks or displaying of flags supporting political, social, or religious movements or commercial entities,” reads a portion of the bylaw.

The bylaw goes a step further by stating that there will be “No grandfathering of any existing crosswalks or flags that contravene the new bylaw will be authorized.”

As reported by LifeSiteNews, in June, residents from Barrhead started a petition to remove all LGBT rainbow crosswalks and “Pride” flags from municipal property. It was presented to the town’s council in July, with 10 percent of citizens having signed it.

This past October it was announced that a plebiscite would be held regarding the petition.

Locals supporting the plebiscite faced stiff opposition from LGBT activists.

Barrhead is the second municipality in the province in recent months to ban all non-official flags from buildings, as well as nonstandard crosswalks.
