According to the report, $49.1 billion in loans were distributed to small businesses to cover expenses that could not be deferred during COVID-19’s business closures.

“Of those loans, 91% went to eligible businesses. As of 31 March 2024, approximately 83% of the total loan amounts originally disbursed had been repaid, with a portion forgiven. Based on our audit work, we estimated $3.5 billion went to ineligible recipients,” reads the report.

Karen Hogan, the Auditor General, highlighted some of her concerns during a press conference on Monday.

“Regardless of the situation, and I’ve said that before, the pandemic wasn’t a reason to throw rules out the window,” she said. “I would expect a basic level of due diligence and monitoring of expenditures, regardless of whether a pandemic exists.”

She said there were positives, given that $49 billion was quickly rolled out to small businesses. However, she was concerned that Export Development Canada relied too heavily on one vendor—Accenture—to deliver the program, and the two departments monitoring it failed in their oversight responsibilities.

Hogan said that 92% of the noncompetitive contracts were awarded to Accenture at a value of $342 million. She added that Export Development Canada gave Accenture too much control over key aspects of the contracts, like the scope of work and pricing. Continue…

Activists with Independent Jewish Voices, a group of anti-Israel Jews, have taken over the entrance to the Confederation Building in Ottawa, where many MPs from various parties have their offices.

The group showed up around 9 a.m. Tuesday to demand a two-way arms embargo against Israel and to call for a ceasefire between Israel and the terrorist group Hamas.

Hamas still refuses to release the hostages it has held in captivity since the Oct. 7, 2023 massacre in Israel, which killed an estimated 1,200 and took hundreds more captive.

Parliamentary Protection Services officers began removing activists within the hour.

Two Ontario men caught trafficking over $40 million of cocaine in US

Two Canadians were busted while attempting to traffic over $40 million worth of cocaine in the United States.

Illinois State Police pulled over a semi-trailer truck near the Iowa state line last week that carried the illicit cargo.

“Vanshpreet Singh and Manpreet Signh were taken into custody and transported to the Henry County Jail pending a pre-trial release hearing. ISP notified Homeland Security Investigations, which responded and is providing assistance. There is no further information available at this time,” reads the IPS press release.

According to police, a trooper conducted an inspection of their vehicle early Friday afternoon on Interstate 80 in Henry County, Illinois.

The two men were transporting the drugs in a Volvo semi-trailer.

The trooper discovered “numerous indicators of criminal activity” during the inspection and a complete search of the truck revealed 1,146 pounds of cocaine, worth an approximate street value of over $40 million. Continue…

Alberta overhauls photo radar, pledging to remove 70% of approved sites

After previously pausing the introduction of new photo radar systems for traffic enforcement on Dec. 1, 2019, the Alberta government has introduced new measures to remove the majority of existing equipment in the province.

Alberta’s Minister of Transportation, Devin Dreeshen, announced that the province would end using photo radar as a revenue generator at a Monday press conference.

Starting Apr. 1, 2025, photo radar usage will be restricted to schools, playgrounds, and construction zones. Photo radar will also be removed from intersections where drivers were ticketed speeding on a green light; however, red light cameras will remain.

“These changes will once and for all kill the photo radar cash cow in Alberta,” said Dreeshen. “Albertans can be confident that photo radar will only be used to improve traffic and roadside worker safety and not to make money.

Every photo radar site in Alberta will be reviewed over the next four months. The changes are anticipated to bring the current 2,200 photo radar sites down to 650 locations– a 70% reduction.

The reduction will put Alberta more in line with other provinces. Approximately 70% more photo radar sites are used in Alberta’s 24 municipalities compared to the next highest province.

Municipalities will have the ability to request photo radar outside of the three key areas on a case-by-case basis if they can provide evidence of a high frequency of collisions. These exceptions would come on an “exceptional basis,” according to the province’s press release. The exceptions would be subject to an audit every two years to prove they’re reducing collisions. UNESCO’s New Mission | Train Influencers About Combatting Online “Misinformation”

The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is now incorporating teaching influencers how to “fact check” into its activities.

UNESCO claims that influencers have become “primary sources of news and cultural information” around the world – which prompted it to carry out a survey into how these online personalities verify the “news” they present.

Citizens in UN member-countries may or may not be happy that this is how their taxpayer money funding the world organization is being spent these days. But UNESCO is not only conducting surveys; it is also developing a training course for said influencers (which are also interchangeably referred to as content creators in press releases).

It’s meant to teach them not only to “report misinformation, disinformation and hate speech” but also to collaborate with legacy media and these outlets’ journalists, in order to “amplify fact-based information.”

The survey, “Behind the screens,” was done together with researchers from the US Bowling Green State University. 500 influencers from 45 countries took part, and the key findings, UNESCO said, are that 63 percent of them “lack rigorous and systematic fact-checking protocols” – but also, that 73% said they “want to be trained.” Continue…

Brian Peckford, former Premier and the last surviving architect of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, joins Tanya Gaw this week to absolutely confirm the fact that Canada IS a Christian nation: a country founded on Judeo-Christian biblical principles that are embedded in our Magna Carta and Constitution and form our laws and our values. It is plainly carved on the walls of our Parliamentary buildings and included in our National Anthem.

The opening words to the Charter, “Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the Supremacy of God and the Rule of Law” are the framework principles (Christian biblical principles based on God, the Creator) through which the Charter is to be interpreted and supersedes any other sections (ie. items listed under “General”) that suggest otherwise.

For example, Section 27 states, “This Charter shall be interpreted in a manner consistent with the preservation and enhancement of the multicultural heritage of Canadians”, however this does nothing more than acknowledge that there are people from many societies who are a part of the country. However, the government, courts and Human Rights Tribunals are using it out of context to give foreigners the latitude to prioritize their foreign belief systems/religions, which violates the government’s commitment to a Christian standard of living. Hon. Peckford has previously confirmed that Section 2(a), Freedom of Religion, was added to prohibit the government from interfering with religion based on the Christian God and not for other religions to set up camp and/or take precedence.

In a November 26 ruling, the Ontario Health Services Board ordered Kingston-based Dr. Elaine Ma to pay back over $600,000 which she had claimed after having undergraduate medical student volunteers mass vaccinate Ontario residents in 2021.

The province of Ontario paid doctors for every experimental COVID shot they administered, with one physician now being told to repay the $600,000 she earned by using medical students to mass vaccinate residents.

In a November 26 ruling, the Ontario Health Services Board ordered Kingston-based Dr. Elaine Ma to pay back over $600,000 which she had claimed after having undergraduate medical student volunteers mass vaccinate Ontario residents in 2021.

“The Appeal Board orders the Respondent to reimburse OHIP the amount of $600,962.16,” the board wrote in their decision.

Beginning in January 2021, Ma had organized drive-in vaccination clinics in several parking lots in the Kingston region to vaccinate thousands of Canadians. She recruited undergraduate medical student volunteers to administer the shots.

Under Ma’s program, which lasted until January 2022, 27,250 doses of the experimental COVID shot were administered, earning her a total of $606,657.60, according to the General Manager of the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).

According to OHIP, Ontario doctors were paid $13 for administrating COVID vaccines, and an additional $5.60 if the patient’s sole reason for their appointment was receiving the shot.

However, OHIP argued that Ma’s claims did not meet their requirements as she used volunteers to administer the vaccines, explaining, “the persons who administered vaccines at the clinics organized by Dr. Ma during the Review Period were not her employees.”

As a result, she was ordered to repay the money. However, Ma is arguing that she was acting in Ontario’s best interest, considering the alleged danger of the COVID “pandemic.” Continue…

The mayor of a small rural Canadian township who was castigated and fined for not flying a Pride flag at his town hall says he will not be shamed into personally paying a $5,000 penalty for his act of defiance.

Toronto Sun senior columnist Joe Warmington details Mayor Harold McQuaker, civic leader of Emo (population 1,333) in Ontario, further rejects orders to undertake LGTBTQ2S+ “reeducation” training as directed by the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) as an act of personal contrition.

McQuaker also insisted he won’t yield to demands he must host a Drag Time story hour in the local library anytime soon, either.

As Breitbart News reported, McQuaker was ordered by the OHRC to pay damages after failing to proclaim Pride Month as instructed back in 2020.

Borderland Pride tasked Emo with the job of declaring June as Pride Month and ordered municipal authorities to fly an “LGBTQ2 rainbow flag for a week of your choosing” despite the fact they lack an official flagpole.

Borderland Pride asked Emo to “email us a copy of your proclamation or resolution once adopted and signed.”

The Emo township refused and that rejection sparked a years-long arbitration process in which the tribunal found against the township.

“I utterly refuse to pay the $5,000 because that’s extortion,” McQuaker told the Toronto Sun on Monday.

Whether or not the Emo township pays its $10,000 penalty is yet to be voted on.

“I have a lot of respect for our four councillors,” said the mayor. “We have a special meeting of council, and they will decide that and what to do next. Either pay the fine or appeal it?”

Dr. Kulvinder Kaur Gill has asked the Supreme Court of Canada to hear her appeal of a series of superior court decisions that upheld the right of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO) to restrict her free speech. Gill is an outspoken critic of Covid-19 mandates. She discussed the decision in a post on X.

The CPSO ordered a series of "cautions" against Gill in February 2021 after Gill had posted criticism of Covid mandates and the then-public health policy that advocated isolating, masking, multiple vaccinations and social distancing. The CPSO had issued a declaration on its website in April of 2020, warning physicians not to provide “an opinion that does not align with information coming from public health or government.” The cautions amounted to censorship and a court ordered Gill to pay the college $6,000 in legal costs. Gill is seeking to have the admonishment removed from her professional record. The CPSO has also pursued Dr. Mark Trozzi in his criticism of mandates, citing him for spreading “misinformation.” Continue…

The prime minister went on to claim the number of illegal drugs and migrants entering the US from its norther border are actually very low, despite the incoming president's recent observations.
