Ukraine’s military intelligence provided “operational training” to some of the Islamist groups, the Kyiv Post claims

According to the Kiev-based weekly, some militant groups based in Syria’s Idlib province, which is not under government control, were provided “operational training” by the Khimik Group, reportedly an HUR Special Forces unit. The Ukrainians reportedly focused on educating the terrorists on tactics developed during the ongoing conflict with Russia, including the use of drones, the Kyiv Post said, citing “Islamist social media sites.”

The Khimik Group has reportedly been active in Syria for quite some time. In September, the Ukrainian weekly claimed that the unit successfully attacked a Russian military base on the outskirts of Aleppo, inflicting material damage. Moscow did not comment on the reports at the time.

The media outlet also published a video purportedly showing an HUR flag waving over a building in Aleppo province, claiming that the Ukrainian military intelligence units were conducting a “special operation” in the country to “destroy Russian forces in Syria.” The Russian military has not reported any major attacks on their facilities in the Middle Eastern country or any significant losses in recent months.

A loose coalition of Idlib-based militias and extremist groups led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a terrorist group formerly known as Jabhat al-Nusra, attacked government-controlled territory in northern Syria on Wednesday. HTS was previously known as an Al-Qaeda affiliate.

Ministers advance ‘Feldstein Law,’ giving immunity for passing classified info to PM

Bill to be brought to Knesset on Wednesday; AG says legislation constitutes ‘improper political interference’ in document leaks case against Netanyahu aide Eli Feldstein

Ministers on Sunday advanced the so-called Feldstein Law, which would make it impossible for members of the defense establishment to be prosecuted for giving classified intelligence, without authorization, to the prime minister or defense minister.

The law was approved by the Ministerial Committee for Legislation and will be brought to the Knesset for its preliminary reading on Wednesday.

The proposed law comes in response to charges against Eli Feldstein, a spokesman for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and an unnamed IDF reservist relating to their alleged involvement in the leak of stolen classified intelligence information to the foreign press.

The law’s proponents — Likud MKs Hanoch Milwidsky and Amit Halevi — claimed the legislation was necessary because “even during the war, critical documents regarding the enemy’s intentions did not reach the desks of decision-makers in the political leadership.”

The military and defense establishment have denied accusations that senior politicians have been kept out of the loop, and have opposed the bill.

Leader of Syrian rebel group killed in Russian airstrike in Aleppo report

The leader of the Islamist group that swept into the Syrian city of Aleppo yesterday has been killed in a Russian airstrike, according to unconfirmed Arab media reports.

Ahmed Hussein al-Shar’a, known by his nom de guerre Abu Mohammad al-Julani (or Golani, indicating he was born in the Golan Heights), is wanted by the United States as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, with a $10 million bounty on his head.

France claims Israel violated ceasefire, warns of collapse of deal - report
