The map of ISIS territory, what is the source for each?
There is a note at bottom left of the 2017 map: "Our judgment as to which group has dominant influence in an area is based on a body of sources that we deem reliable."
We?
And nearby that note is the map legend with another note. Hard to make out but: "Boundary representation is not necessarily" what?
? Is the original source of ISIS maps:
The Global Coalition against Daesh was formed in September 2014 and is unique in its membership, scope and commitment. Together, the Global Coalition is committed to degrading and ultimately defeating Daesh.

It appears to be the source.

No update since May 2017.

The note beside the Legend in the ISIS map reads: "Boundary representation is not necessarily authoritative."
Also, these maps are labeled as unclassified.
The attached pic is update for May 2017.
What will be over? Daesh occupation? Things are moving in that direction.
Interesting elevated view of the dynamics of this particular map – or mental picture – of a war with boots on the ground. Hard stuff.
