The NT is in so-called Koine (=Common) Greek which is MUCH easier than the classical "Attic" Greek of Plato or even Homeric Greek.
It was the Greek spoken by people of multiple non-Greek ethnic backgrounds as a common language.
By far the most accurate translation of the NT I have seen (in a strictly linguistic sense) is that of Richmond Lattimore.
It does not attempt to be a full Bible translation, meshing the Hebrew (and Aramaic) OT with the NT and simply translates the Greek NT.
It really does a good job of catching the "feel" of the NT Greek text.
Lattimore was a noted Homeric translator and did not identify as a Christiran when he started the NT project but he got baptized by the time he was done.
This comports with my experience.
I haven't exactly been in "hard science" but I've been close to people "at the top" of the intellectual heap and been SHOCKED.
As in OMFG this it!?
This is all we've got!?
I wanted someone to pour me some wisdom and I realized THOSE people don't have it.
The upshot was that I"d have to do the best I could do and it might very well matter.
Keep up the fight anonsโฆ I think we may be closer than it sometimes feels.
