anon worked closely with Brian (BT) before retiring early, like first name basis. Honestly, a really good dude. And although we never talked politics, anon is pretty sure BT was conservative based on his view on things like personal accountability, etc.. He was an Iowa farm boy but super smart and was doing good things.

Agree and that was my first thought as well. Very few claims disputes bubble all the way up to the CEO, but a few do if the claimant is persistent (and unhinged) enough. Often a denied claim can be financially devastating to the individual who incurred the cost, and things can become highly emotional fast. My guess is the shooter fits this profile and most likely had a claim that escalated through the legal system, made it's way up to BT, and shooter lost the case.
