‘He Has My Support’: Hegseth Nabs Another High-Profile Senate Endorsement

Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Defense Department, has picked up some positive news this week on his nomination.
Alabama GOP Sen. Katie Boyd Britt came out in support of Hegseth after meeting with him, praising his dedication to Trump’s vision of “peace through strength” and his willingness to change the Pentagon’s goals.
“He is committed to putting our warfighters in the best position and returning the Pentagon’s focus to our force’s lethality,” Britt said on X. “We also had a great discussion about the importance of Alabama to our national defense.”
“During our conversation, I asked direct questions about allegations that have been reported by the media, which Pete answered with candor and transparency. Based on our meeting and his answers, he has my support,” Britt said.
Earlier Thursday, Senator Kevin Cramer, a Republican from North Dakota and a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, expressed confidence in Hegseth.
“I give him the benefit of the doubt,” Cramer said. “I am ready to be supportive of getting him to that point. I’m ready to get him in front of the committee. I did warn him. I said, ‘you know, not everybody on the committee is as friendly as I am,’ which I don’t think surprised him. But I also said, there’s nobody on the committee that doesn’t earn our respect.”
“My commitment I was looking for was that he won’t drink, he won’t touch alcohol, and that he’d be ready for a phone call at 3 in the afternoon or 3 in the morning and every hour in between,” Cramer said. “I thought that was a good way to put it.”
During an interview on CNN, Tennessee GOP Sen. Bill Hagerty announced his support for the embattled nominee. The endorsement provides a significant boost as Hegseth faces mounting skepticism from within his party over his qualifications and readiness to lead the Pentagon.
“Well, I’d say this: I was just with Pete meeting with a large group of House members, and he had an ovation that was resounding,” Hagerty said. “I think that Pete is, as people get to know him again, as people get to see his deliberation, his deliberate stance on trying to repair the Pentagon, try to fix our recruiting crisis, our retention crisis, I think people are overwhelmingly supportive of him.”
Hagerty was very positive about how the approval process for Hegseth was going. Some Republicans were worried about Hegseth’s lack of high-level defense experience.
“And I think that’s going to continue to move in the right direction,” Hagerty added. “I’ll admit him, is with Pete right now.”
Hegseth intimated during a hallway interview at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday that he’s not going to drop out of consideration despite mounting allegations of sexual and personal misconduct.
Former Fox News contributor Pete Hegseth, an Army officer with documented combat experience, said that he spoke with Trump earlier in the day and that the president-elect encouraged him to “keep fighting.”
“I spoke to the President-elect this morning. He said keep going, keep fighting… Why would I back down? I’ve always been a fighter,” he told a reporter.
Asked directly if he was thinking of withdrawing his name amid the allegations, Hegseth said he was on Capitol Hill to meet with senators, which would continue.
Trump announced Hegseth as his SECDEF nominee about a week after he soundly defeated Vice President Kamala Harris.

SECDEF is going to play Defense on more than just enemies of the state.
He's got a hell of a job trying to clean up our defense?
I'm thinking there is plenty he'll have to defend himself from within the defense department.

…as long as he's not Damien.
Put the 13th amendment to the constitution back to it's original form.
No titles of nobility.
