Grassley is a part of the Branstad clique in Iowa. His people (Reynolds, Ernst, Nunn) are all RINOs controlled by Big Insurance, Pharma, and the Trial Lawyers. Reynolds and Ernst are toast as far as MAGA is concerned, and MAGA now controls the Iowa GOP. It's Lynn Cheney-tier politics.
I think he's walking a tightrope trying to work both sides. That's precisely what a politician who's been in office for almost 50 years would do.
When she endorsed DeSantis in the Iowa Caucus. She's done, just riding out the term, and she knows it. Her people have been removed from the state party leadership, Branstad has retired from his fake job at the World Food Prize. Ernst is in the process of committing political suicide over the Hegseth nomination (because she wants the SecDef nominationโฆcuz girl power) and Grassley has aged out and might not even survive to finish his term because of age.
The subsidies may be reduced, but I don't think they'll be eliminated. If ethanol falls out of favor in DC, the farmers will just reduce the number of acres planted. Most Iowa field corn is now grown for ethanol production and not animal feed.
Cargil, Monsanto and Pioneer Hybrids et al are the ones who will take the biggest monetary hit.
