Former President Barack Obama celebrated his 60th birthday Saturday (August 7) on Martha’s Vineyard, surrounded by families, friends, and a vegan menu.
The former commander-in-chief scaled back his party due to the rise of the COVID-19 Delta variant and still had “a great time.”
“He never stopped smiling,” a source told People. “Literally, every time I saw him, he had the biggest smile.” An original 475 guests were reportedly invited to the party before the invite list got cut down to only friends and family.
Among the finalized star-studded guest list wereDwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union, Gayle King, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, Don Cheadle, and Alicia Keys. Beyoncé and Jay-Zalso reportedly also attended the celebration, though Oprah decided not to attend the party because of the surge in COVID-19 cases.
Erykah Badu, H.E.R., and John Legendall attended and performed during the celebration as well, according to reports.
In a statement to the Black Information Network, PETA also revealed Obama celebrated his birthday without meat, the animal rights organization sending two special cakes for the birthday guy.
"Former President Barack Obama is having a meat-free Hawaii-inspired menu for his 60th birthday party,” PETA said. One cake was shaped like a Hawaiian pineapple and even threw in a carrot cake for Obama's “beloved, aging dog, Sunny.”
“This marks the first and we know not the last meat-free presidential birthday bash,” PETA President Ingrid Newkirk shared. “Our cakes extend the aloha spirit to him and to all the animals in the land.”

‘Particularly Dangerous Situation’: Red Flag Warning issued for parts of Southern California
Dangerous fire weather in this week’s forecast promptedRed Flag Warningsfor parts of Southern California, issued by the National Weather Service on Sunday.
The warning, which NWS labeled as aParticularly Dangerous Situation (PDS), will be in place from Monday night through Wednesday as “a strong, widespread, and long duration Santa Ana event will bring widespread critical to extremely critical fire weather conditions to many areas of Los Angeles and Ventura counties.”
Los Angeles County Fire officials say the department is beefing up its staff, it is pre-positioning trucks with water tanks in the event that they have to get to a rural area without hydrants, and they’re advising people to take precautions themselves.
For example, officials say it’s a good idea to preemptively clear brush away from your home and get your things ready just in case of an evacuation.
“This event has the potential to be as strong as the November 5-6 Santa Ana event that led to the Mountain Fire,” a NWS release warns. “Prepare for fire weather by ensuring you have defensible space and creating a plan in case of evacuation. Any new fire will grow rapidly, likely exhibiting extreme fire behavior.”
Meteorologists with NWS told KTLA’s Rachel Menitoff that they are comparing these weather conditions to those that led to the Mountain Fire and also to the Thomas Fire which affected Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties in 2017.
L.A. County firefighter specialist, Brad Auman, says when you add in 45 to 65 mile per hour winds, it makes containment especially challenging.
“Winds will dry out the fuels and then, if it gets in alignment with a hill, we have wind going up, and fire burning up the hill, it’s going to burn very very quickly,” says Auman.
On a more minor scale, periods of high wind and low humidity also bring irritants, exacerbate allergies, and impact our air.
