A thought on fanaticism - And why religious fanaticism has increased, not lessened, as our knowledge and technology grew
<I'm using Christianity as an example but this applies to every Religion, Ideology and Sect out there. Especially the religion of the world leaders.
The dangers of non-constant surveillance is that some people start to think for them selves when left alone.
In ancient times travel times were long and the journeys often dangerous.
This meant that a bishop would only see his priests on occasion.
Leaving them alone the rest of the time to preach as they saw fit.
Then we invented cars. Now the Bishop could see inspect the local church not only more often but also unexpected.
This increased the priests need to follow the rules and teach as he were told.
Then telefones and radio. - You can see where this is going right?
So, today the Bishop could theoretically install cameras through out a church and constantly spy on everything and no one would be the wiser - meaning the priests has no choice but to comply at all times, even if there are no cameras, because what if there were.
Some guy once said: If you have to lie make it big and tell it often.
This applies to what we say to us selves too.
So in the end these priests would not only comply but also convince themselves of doing the right thing even if not.
