Statement on the Conclusion of Search Operations for Possible Remaining Detainees in Secret Cells and Basements of Sednaya Prison
https://whitehelmets.org/node/1691
The White Helmets announce the conclusion of search operations for possible remaining detainees in potential undiscovered secret cells and basements within the infamous Sednaya Prison. The search did not uncover any unopened or hidden areas within the facility.
The prison previously held thousands of innocent individuals detained by the former Assad regime. Families of the missing and survivors believed that some detainees might have been unable to leave over the past two days, potentially due to being held in tightly sealed and secured areas, as per reports from the relatives of the missing.
Specialized teams from The White Helmets conducted a thorough search of all sections, facilities, basements, courtyards, and surrounding areas of the prison. These operations were carried out with the assistance of individuals familiar with the prison and its layout. However, no evidence of undiscovered secret cells or basements was found.
The operation involved five teams, including two K9 (trained police dog) units. The teams inspected all entrances, exits, ventilation shafts, sewage systems, water pipes, electrical wiring, and surveillance camera cables. Despite these extensive efforts, no hidden or sealed areas were identified.
We share the profound disappointment of the families of the thousands who remain missing and whose fates remain unknown. We stand in solidarity with the victimsโ families, fully understanding their anguish and their longing for answers about their loved ones.
We urge social media users to be mindful of the widespread misinformation and rumors circulating about prisons and detainees. Please exercise caution when receiving or sharing such information online to respect the victims' families and avoid causing unnecessary psychological distress.
We urge all parties, stakeholders, and families of the missing to avoid unauthorized searches or tampering with prison sites. Such actions risk destroying crucial physical evidence that could be vital for uncovering the truth and advancing justice and accountability efforts. Our specialized teams are ready to assist in investigating any locations suspected of containing hidden detainees.
We also call on international organizations and local authorities to support the efforts of Syrian civil society in uncovering the fate of missing persons from all parties. The White Helmets are committed to dedicating resources to this cause by working to uncover mass graves, identify unidentified bodies, and return them to their families in the hope of helping to heal wounds, support transitional justice efforts, and build peace.

An American recipe from the 1796 edition of American Cookery by Amelia Simmons states:
Take four ounces [110 g] of hops, let them boil half an hour in one gallon [3.8 L] of water, strain the hop water then add sixteen gallons [61 L] of warm water, two gallons [7.6 L] of molasses, eight ounces [230 g] of essence of spruce, dissolved in one quart [0.95 L] of water, put it in a clean cask, then shake it well together, add half a pint [240 ml] of emptins, then let it stand and work one week, if very warm weather less time will do, when it is drawn off to bottle, add one spoonful of molasses to every bottle.
The Daily Order (11 June 1759) for the Highland Regiment in North America stipulated that: "Spruce beer is to be brewed for the health and conveniency of the troops which will be served at prime cost. Five quarts of molasses will be put into every barrel of Spruce Beer. Each gallon will cost nearly three coppers".
A Canadian recipe using similar ingredients for an unfermented tea from 1757 states:
It is made of the tops and branches of the spruces-tree, boiled for three hours, then strained into casks, with a certain quantity of molasses; and, as soon as cold, it is fit for use
