Sometimes a spiral is just a spiral…
Sounds like a tornado, or hurricane, or water running down the drain.
Like most successful 'archetypal' symbols, they are found in nature, and connect with the viewer consciously or subconsciously.
Over the aeons, many co-opt them, and many revere them.
Artists and designers know all this (or should), and deploy them intentionally.
In the end, they are neutral mainly. Only temporarily ascribed to one cause or another…
