"Straitor, we must shoot her": Italian neo-Nazi group Werewolf Division had Meloni in the crosshair

The attacks against Italy's prime minister are said to have been in preparation, and the WEF head Klaus Schwab was also apparently in their sights. Now the Italian police have arrested a dozen presumed right-wing extremists in a raid.

The killing of the government head Giorgia Meloni is an excellent way to overthrow Italy into a civil war. The members of the far-right werewolf division exchanged their way into chats, which were tapped by the police. In a nationwide raid, the Italian authorities have now taken action against the Neo-Nazi GroupDivision Werewolf. The raid was directed against a total of 25 suspects between the ages of 19 and 25.

The police searched premises from Lombardy via Rome to Sicily. Twelve severe members were arrested on Wednesday. They are primarily accused of membership in a terrorist association. The search decision also speaks of the "preparation of serious attacks", and also of propaganda and incitement to racial, ethnic and religious discrimination, as well as to illegal possession of weapons.

Discussions: "traitor", "concubine of Zion"

The group is said to have targeted Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The prosecutor's office in Bologna is convinced of this. According to the newspaper "La Repubblica", the members in chats spoke about an attack against "the Prime Minister". An economics manager was also in the crosshairs. According to the "Corriere della Sera", this is intended to be WEF leader Klaus Schwab.

According to the prosecution, the group had the goal of undermining the existing order to establish an authoritarian state, which focuses on the "Aryan race". It was a well-organized cell that was already able to commit attacks. These should have been committed by individual perpetrators, so-called lone wolves.

The group wasnamed after the Werewolf organization, which the so-called Reichsführer SS Heinrich Himmler had founded in the last months of the Second World War, in order to stop the advance of the Allied troops. The logo of the Italian group consists of a masked skull with a stylized combination of SS runs and swastika.

As Italian media reports, the authorities have had the group under observation for some time. It is said to have been strictly hierarchically structured with precise functions such as "commander" and "trainer". The training of the "warriors" had already begun. According to the investigation, the so-called warriors were entrusted to an instructor. This is intended to be Salvatore Nicotra. The Bolognese is said to have said in a conversation called out in May 2023: "I have trained five potential guerrillas to take a weapon in its own hands, to stand before Meloni and shoot it in the head." This is reported by the "Corriere della Sera". Nicotra is now in detention. He had also said that he was "ready to die for the cause."

According to investigators, Nicotra had already drafted an operational scenario: there is a hotel in front of the parliament, from where one could fire a shot to commit a "stroke on life" by the Prime Minister, he is said to have said. "She is a traitor, a fascist, until she came to power, and now she denies being one. We must bring them down. We must shoot them." He also drafted plans for storming parliament to eliminate the politicians there.

According to the media reports, the threats also referred to Klaus Schwab, the President of the World Economic Forum. In the spring of 2023, Nicotra wrote to a member of the chat: "He seems to be in Switzerland," now only the weapons had to be found.

Weapon purchases via Telegram

According to the investigators, Daniele Trevisani, a severe supporter of the werewolf group, had subscribed to the American Telegram channel "Leadbaroncustoms", which can be used to buy firearms using cryptocurrencies. Trevisani is said to have suggested that he keep in touch with an ex-member of the Palestinian liberation organisation. The man can "do the job", "knows how to build small self-made devices," and mirror the werewolf mind as an "anti-Zionist Palestinian." This is what Italian media report. Trevisani has therefore also said that he wants belligerent monks, a battalion fighting with all his might. "Until the last man!"

FRANKFURT, Germany – Homes and offices of suspected neo-Nazis were raided by investigators across Europe Wednesday, amid reports a far-right group calling itself the "Werewolf Squad” was planning a terror attack.

Police and anti-terrorism units raided 11 homes, offices and prison cells in Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland in a joint operation, German prosecutors said.

German channel Deutsche Welle reported that some 50 police personnel took part in the searches in that country.

The Spiegel Online website said the group was suspected of planning bomb attacks and had modeled itself on the "Werewolf" commandos whom the Nazis planned to send behind enemy lines towards the end of World War II.

Police confiscated computers, memory cards and documents in the apartments and offices of four individuals in the three countries, Reuters reported.

Sources told NBC News that the move was an attempt by authorities to pre-empt neo-Nazi activity by displaying vigilance.

German authorities are under pressure to step up their response to far-right threats after the chance discovery in 2011 of a neo-Nazi cell, the National Socialist Underground (NSU), suspected of murdering eight Turks, a Greek and a German policewoman between 2000 and 2007, Reuters reported.

The group's last surviving member is now on trial, and the case has triggered accusations that, despite Germany's traumatic Nazi past, police and especially the domestic intelligence agency are blind to far-right militancy.

NBC News' Alastair Jamieson and Reuters contributed to this report.

AfD calls for protests amid rising energy costs in Berlin

BERLIN (Reuters) - Following are some of the key moments in the rise of the Alternative for Germany (AfD), the country's' most successful far-right party since the Nazis were in power.

2013 - The Alternative for Germany is foundedby a group of academics, journalists and businessmen as an anti-euro party during the euro zone crisis. The party wants Germany to quit the euro and reintroduce the Deutsche Mark.

2015 - The party shifts right during Europe's migration crisis, causing some of the original founders to quit. As the only party to criticise Chancellor Angela Merkel's open-door policy that let in hundreds of thousands of migrants, it sees support rise steadily.

A co-leader says the then-integration minister should be "disposed of" in Turkey, the country of origin of her parents.

2017 - In January, regional AfD leader Bjoern Hoecke in January attacks the Holocaust Memorial as "monument of shame", saying history books should focus more on German victims of World War Two.

In September, the AfD becomes the first far-right party to enter the national parliament for more than half a century, winning 12% of the vote and becoming the official parliamentary opposition. Other parties still refuse to cooperate with it.

2018 - The AfD achieves 16-18% support in the polls, which remains its highest level until 2023.

Operation Werewolf: The German Resistance An Elite Group Of Military Men Behind Enemy Lines, To Operate Secretly, Using Guerrilla Tactics

Propaganda Efforts

Joseph Goebbels, the well known and recognizable leader of German propaganda, used the group in his work. In March 1945, Goebbels gave the “Werewolf speech,” in which he urged every German to fight to the death. A Werewolf propaganda station was launched on April 1, 1945, urging Germans to fight against all Allied personnel. Goebbels told German citizens that Werewolf was an organization of German partisans and he reminded them of their motto “conquer or die.”

Due to his efforts, Operation Werewolf’s reputation survived, and many people believed they operated for years after the end of WWII.

The Americans and British also used Operation Werewolf in their propaganda. Their press seized upon the opportunity and printed the text of the propaganda station’s broadcasts. It served the Allies, as it reminded the troops that “every German is Hitler.
