This was tested out in the 1970's - follow on to 1957 program under MISSILE Q test. See Minuteman II air launch test. Also, note missile tested had a range of about 6,300 miles and weighed 73,000 pounds. About the same weight as the Chicom balloons reported a few years ago.

Note Minuteman III weighs a little more (79,000 pounds) and has a range of 8K plus miles. See also DF-26.
