Trump wants EU to send troops to Ukraine – WSJ

Arumoredceasefire proposal would rule out US boots on the ground

US President-elect Donald Trump has proposed that EU members send peacekeepers to Ukraine to monitor a ceasefire with Russia, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citingpeople familiar with the matter.

Trump ran for the White House on the promise of negotiating a swift end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, but has been reluctant to reveal any specifics of his actual proposal since winning the election.

Speaking with French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky last Saturday,Trump argued that “Europe” should play the main rolein monitoring a ceasefire and that no US troops would be involved, the Journal reported, citing “officials briefed on the meeting.”(The WSJ can’t name one person involved)

The Journal’s sources claimed that the proposal “started as quiet discussions between British and French officials about the possibility” before including Trump, Zelensky and other governments.

According to one source, Trump also pushed the EU to demand of China to pressure Russia to end the conflict, suggesting the use of tariffs as leverage.

Discussions are still at such an early stage, according to the Journal, that the questions of which countries would be involved, with how many troops, and any US role in supporting the mission remain unresolved.

Thehypothetical peacekeeping or monitoring mission in Ukraine would not be under NATO commandbut would involve troops from member countries of the US-led bloc, according to the unnamed officials, who admitted this was something they were not sure Russia would accept. (That’s Freakin BS too…)

It was likewise unclear whether Washington’s European allies would be able to spare the actual soldiers or have the political support at home for such a mission.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has invited the leaders of the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Poland to meet with Zelensky in Brussels to discuss security guarantees for Kiev, two officials told the Journal. (WHY, why are they dragging the dog into this? They are obviously trying to manipulate Trump.)

According to unnamed aides, however, Trump is not “wedded” to any particular plan for ending the conflict and “hasn’t thought deeply about the issue” as he prepares the handover of power on January 20. (the unnamed aid or aides has no idea what he thinks deeply about. This is a fairytale delivered by WSJ, just like the NYT’s does, makes up stories, to cause trouble)

Russia has repeatedly said that Ukraine’s association with NATO would be a threat to its national security. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has described Ukraine’s membership in the bloc as “categorically unacceptable” to Moscow, citing it as one of the major causes of the current conflict.

Zelensky is getting farther and farther away with what he asks for, the pictures prove it. KEK

‘No justification’ for German stance on Ukraine in NATO – Kiev

Deputy PM Olga Stefanishina has complained about Berlin’s refusal to accept the country into the US-led military bloc (Seriously why are women involved in decisions like this, they have no idea what they are commenting on?)

Germany’s refusal to back admitting Ukraine into NATO is unreasonable, Kiev’s deputy prime minister and top European integration official Olga Stefanishina, has claimed.

Several members of the US-led military bloc have publicly opposed any progress on eventual Ukrainian accession. Stefanishina complained about the obstruction in an interview with Politico this week, extracts of which were published by the outlet on Thursday.

There is no “justification” for Berlin's stance, she claimed, explaining that German policy on the issue has not changed in decades. She added: “It’s really hard to work with a country where there is no reason behind this negative position.” (Zelensky has lost the war, lost close to a million men, taken billions from US, and the EU, and laundered more than half of it, and they can’t even sustain their country, they are a “Welfare State”, the country is run by a MAFIA, there’s no reason they should even be supported now. That’s all the justification anyone needs)

European NATO members are mulling possible deployment of their troops for what they describe as a peacekeeping mission, in case a ceasefire in the conflict is reached. Stefanishina said Kiev is “ready to speak about whatever works,” including foreign boots on the ground.

The military organization first said it will bring Ukraine into its ranks in 2008, when then-US President George W Bush pushed the decision to offer Kiev a NATO Membership Action Plan on skeptical European nations, including Germany.Angela Merkel, who was chancellor at the time, has said in her memoirs thatshe was against it because she expected Russian President Vladimir Putin to take it as a “declaration of war.”

The ongoing hostilities between Russia and Ukraine were triggered by NATO’s refusal to address Moscow’s concern over its European expansion and its increasing military assistance to Kiev, according to Russian officials. It wants Ukraine to be a neutral state.

Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky wants a formal invitation to join NATO, claiming this would discourage Moscow from pursuing its goals. After meeting US President-elect Donald Trump in Paris last week,he claimed it made “no sense” for him to discuss the issue with the incoming American leaderand that he would engage outgoing President Joe Biden instead. (Trump said NO WAY! KEK)

Stefanishina seemed to question Zelensky’s actions, telling Politico that it was “hard to discuss [NATO] membership in the last moments of the [Biden] administration.” She added that “the best way to build a dialogue is simply to meet with President Trump.”

One of Trump’s advisers, who spoke to Reuters about the Paris meeting on condition of anonymity, said Zelensky seemed to be “overplaying his hand,” considering Ukraine’s perilous situation on the battlefield.

(The more Zelensky disrespects World Leaders, the farther away, he’ll have any say in the end.)
