We know these people are criminals. If the public was truly aware, they wouldn't be able to walk down the street anyway because they would be in prison. How could there be widespread awareness of the evil they committed, and yet simultaneously they have their freedom? So it's a logical fallacy.
UNLESS:
They were issued blanked pardons first, and then the truth comes out afterwards. They would technically be free to walk the street, but would be unable to do so safely. Anon is pissed at the Biden pardon extravaganza, but it kinda makes sense now. Sometimes street justice is more effective than legal justice.
