The Bad guys were planning on using them to stage a false alien invasion, pretend they were space ships, kill a bunch of people. It would enable COG powers. Instead, the good guys decided to fly them around and show them off early in a goofy way just to fuck with the bad guys. That's why none of the agencies reporting agrees. The bad guys can't decide which is the correct lie to go with. Is the fake invasion still on??? They don't know. Should they pivot? Communication channels are terrible for them now. Make them squirm. Specifically press could vigorously pursue ET narrative. "Do we know if the entities are friendly?" etc. Bad guys won't be able to decide if they should deny ET or confirm.
