Irene Lima, 55, and Chad Kabecz, 40, of Winnipeg, have each been charged with four counts of bestiality, six counts of killing or injuring animals, six counts of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, and possessing and making child pornography with the intent to distribute it, records show.
A Canadian couple has been arrested on animal abuse and child pornography charges after authorities discovered they had been selling fetish videos on the dark web that included the woman allegedly crushing kittens to death with her bare feet.
Irene Lima, 55, and Chad Kabecz, 40, of Winnipeg, were arrested in October after a local veterinarian was tipped off about videos depicting animal torture. Each of them has been charged with four counts of bestiality, six counts of killing or injuring animals, six counts of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, and possessing and making child pornography with the intent to distribute it, according to the Daily Mail.
Police reported that more than 75 animals were filmed or photographed being tortured and killed between May 20 to October 7. In several cases, the videos included sexual components. Additionally, investigators said they discovered messages between Kabecz and Lima discussing the desire to torture a child and found several child pornographic images on a device belonging to the couple.
Police seized several of Lima and Kabecz's devices while searching their residence, resulting in the discovery of hundreds of videos and photographs, as well as tens of thousands of encrypted communications.
Kabecz has been accused of creating "an exclusive underground black-market network" for animal torture content. According to police, individuals were required to submit their own torture videos to gain access to the content, and both accused individuals benefitted financially from the animal torture videos. The couple's website on the dark web was titled "Goddess May Barefoot Premium Crush."
Crown attorney Sean Sass told the Court during an October hearing that Lima could be seen in the videos crushing animals to death with her bare feet, including kittens and cats. "These are not quick kills," he said. "As the time-stamps seem to indicate, some of these videos are five minutes long. They're staged, premeditated torturing that result in the death of very vulnerable animals."
On Monday, a judge denied Lima bail. Kabecz was initially released in October and was ordered to have no contact with Lima or animals or use the internet. He was taken into custody again on November 26 after police seized the couple's devices, allegedly found additional evidence of child pornography and animal torture and hit the couple with a slew of new charges.
