“My name is Elizabeth Pittinger and I am the daughter in-law of the late Walter Allen Pittinger-Dunham of Washington DC. Allen was a Social Worker, a clinical director, a private therapist and a very kind and loving man who always put others needs first. He died unexpectedly on January 4th, 2022 and leaves behind his husband, partner, and best friend Phillip Pittinger-Dunham. They were married in Washington DC the first day it was legalized and have spent over 21 years together. Allen also served as Phillip’s caretaker due to his disability and he took great pride in being able to care for him both physically and emotionally.
Phillip has had his world turn upside down and needs your help. Not only did he lose his life partner but he is now going to lose their home. He physically does not have the ability to pack up 21 years on his own and needs financial help with Allen’s funeral expenses, debt, and packing and moving costs. He simply cannot do this without a lot of assistance.
Allen’s greatest joy was caring for Phillip and one of his clients penned his life and love the best when they heard of his passing. With their permission I share the following:
“As you are well aware, your husband has a magnetic soul and was one of the most beautiful people I have ever crossed paths with. I feel so honored to have connected with Allen on such an inspiring and deep level in this lifetime. He transformed my life at a time I felt so utterly lost. He has forever changed me and will continue shaping my life. His optimistic aura and calming demeanor made me feel safe and his enlightening words provided the reassurance I needed to begin a new journey. He taught me what a healthy relationship looked like through our work together, and most importantly through him sharing his love story – you were his everything. I could see and feel his love for you through his eyes and smile (and that’s hard to do via Zoom!). You were and will always be the love of his life.
Throughout our time together he often repeated an analogy that went something like this “this is your life path, I’m here to walk with you, we are walking together on this path — you may hit deadends, detours, a maze, but I’m right here with you, by your side, I won’t ever leave you.” These soothing words keep playing over in my mind. Allen is still walking with us, his energy, his soul, his spirit will never die. Allen has touched so many lives and will continue transforming lives through his unique perspective, positive teachings and safe, loving energy.”
