Democrats are taking a mulligan on a slogan for the midterms after their first was mercilessly mocked, this time hoping to tap into the populist spirit under the message: “For the People.”

The move comes after Democrats last year pushed the slogan: “A Better Deal: Better Skills, Better Jobs, Better Wages."

This drew immediate taunts given its obvious similarity to the Papa John’s tagline, “Better Ingredients. Better Pizza. Papa John’s.”

K Street lobbyists are the symbol of Washington influence-peddling as they push government for favors, subsidies, exemptions, and other special treatment for their clients. Their customers include, in addition to domestic clients, foreign governments, oligarchs, fugitive speculators, and a rogue’s gallery of questionable figures. Washington lobbyists trade on their access to power. Many are former administration officials or members of Congress. If Trump fulfills his promise to “drain the swamp,” these influence peddlers would have nothing to sell. They are under attack…..

The media’s focus on Trump’s Russian connections ignores the much more extensive and lucrative business relationships of top Democrats with Kremlin-associated oligarchs and companies.

Sweden is being burned to a crisp by raging wildfires

HELSINKI — Sweden says it has mobilized all available resources to put out dozens of wildfires raging across the country.

The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency said Wednesday that two Canadair CL-415 water-bombing planes on loan from Italy joined the firefighting efforts that included helicopters from Norway.

Swedish public broadcaster SVT says an estimated 40 wildfires are burning mostly in Sweden, mostly in the central and western parts of the country, but also in the Arctic north.

Thousands of people have been warned to remain inside with the windows shut to avoid breathing smoky air.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday said he was poised to impose tariffs on $500 billion of goods from China, threatening in an interview with CNBC to escalate the current trade clash with the Asian nation.

"We're down a tremendous amount," Trump said in the interview, which was recorded on Thursday, about trade imbalances with China. "I'm ready to go to 500."

Aston Martin reveals flying car that could hit 200 mph

Not even James Bond had an Aston Martin like this.

The British sports car maker revealed a concept version of a flying car, the Volante Vision Concept, at the Farnborough Airshow this week.

Aston Martin has billed the futuristic vehicle as a luxury car for the skies. The autonomous hybrid-electric vehicle, which has room for three passengers, is designed for urban and inter-city travel, the company said. It’s also capable of vertical take-offs and landings. The vehicle could fly at top speeds of around 200 miles per hour, according to Reuters.

Awful: Father of Parkland Shooting Survivors Killed in Robbery

The father of two Parkland school shooting survivors died in an armed robbery Tuesday.

Ayub Ali, whose son and daughter survived the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School five months earlier, was killed in his own convenience store. Ali's daughter had been in a classroom at MSD's 1200 building, where the school shooting took place.
