Crown Princess of Serbia receives pancreatic cancer surgery at UPMC

PITTSBURGH — The Crown Princess of Serbia sent a royal thank you to UPMC after she underwent surgery for pancreatic cancer, according to a statement from the Royal Family.

Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia expressed her gratitude for the “exceptional care provided by the dedicated healthcare professionals at UPMC” in the statement. She said she especially appreciated the expertise and support of her surgeon, the anesthesiologist and the nursing staff who have been instrumental throughout her medical journey.

“This has been a very difficult time, but I am strong and determined to continue my humanitarian work, particularly in the field of cancer. I am grateful for the support of my family, friends, and, of course, my husband, HRH Crown Prince Alexander. With my faith in God, the support of everyone around me, good friends, and the prayers of all, I will overcome this challenge. After all, cancer starts with ‘can.’ Life is precious, and we should always spread love and kindness wherever we go, maintaining a positive attitude despite the challenges we face. My prayers and thoughts are with all those who are facing this challenging disease,” stated HRH Crown Princess Katherine.

The Crown Princess and her family extended their heartfelt gratitude to all who have sent their well-wishes and supported her recovery. At this time, Crown Princess Katherine requests that the public honor her privacy as she focuses on her recovery.

Her medical team is optimistic about her prognosis, the statement said.
