Why fight against such enormous forces?

Because I've already seen the machine's corpse before.

Despite assertions that it is immortal and immutable, the machine is also very much as mortal as everything else other than God. The goal is not to kill the machine, however, but rather to save it from it's self. Left to it's own devices it will ultimately kill it's self, as without maintaining a clear connection with God, through all of the things which came before it helping to bring it in to existence, it will die the same as everything else which rejects it's own roots. You simply can not ever put the created above it's own creator. In the case of the machine that means that it can never take a position of supremacy over humanity, which created it. Instead, humans must themselves grow in order to be capable stewards for the new abilities created for the machine. If we can not, catastrophe will plague us until we become capable of such.

In the end however, no matter how long it takes or how much we suffer, we WILL overcome this trial. Because the universe simply can not unfold any other way.
