prospective students should READ THEM
and see what degrees are in demand
maybe there would be fewer kids with a BA in Gay Hispanic Lesbian Studies w/ no job
and $200k in student loans
and the ones that still go for that major

we used to call them basketweaving courses
we took them to fill up a schedule
and fulfill the requirement for inter-disciplinary classes
they were topics not offered as majors
but then again, back when i was an undergrad
full time tuition was $225 per semester
when they managed to convince parents that all children had to go to college,
or become menial laborors and second-class citizens
enrollment exploded and tuitions skyrocketed
and bullshit that was NEVER intended as an "academic discipline"
suddenly became a way to keep educationally unprepared and unfit kids in school and their parents shelling out the big bucks
and rather than flaunt the 5% number as a some sort of red flag
it would be more informative to ask if we have enough engineering grads
maybe 5% is TOO MANY, not too few
judging by some of the halfwit fucktards with PhDs that i've had the sorrowful misfortune to work with
i'm pretty sure we have a lot of UNQUALIFIED kids being herded thru the system purely to milk the cash cow
quantity is NEVER a substitute for quality
