I was the guy that carried the whole software department and kept the company in business for a few more years. I did it more than one.
Trained in the military as an engineer I had no idea that I did the work of 5 people. My bosses were of the type 'nothing you ever do is good enough' and I was a rummy so I didn't get TDY projects so I LEFT GOVERNMENT and went to work in private industry.
the lazy software people hated me because I worked tirelessly and SOLVED the issues as fast as I could.
they realized that they were nothing special.
it did effect my ego a bit.
so that was a problem, I admit it now.
I had no use for make-work.
I solved the problems and then said 'next problem'.
I knew how to use the debugging emulator which none of the others even bothered to learn. I could specify system. I would have cables built by the GI's to save the office thousands of dollars in bloated fees. I automated the form fillout process with post script. I replace a juck emulator with a RS232 plug in box. I got it all done.
but the bosses wanted a yes man and roadies to do the grunt work so broom pushing was also part of what was required, which I would do. Or to build up and tear down a ground station. I did it all joyously.
but that wasn't good enough.
I was NOT a rummy. I trained as a civilian engineer for the military, I was not in the military.
