If someone is talented, then why do taxpayers have to foot the bill? Shouldn’t employers pay a tax in the form of immigration documents in order to acquire workers from outside the US? You would think it would be worth it for ‘the most talented employees.’

First Mars colony will be fail because it is completely man-made. The lack of crime or risk of death will drive the colonizers mad. The only way a civilization with no crime or risk of untimely death will work is if competitions are set up which risk death. Not in the form of death matches, but competition so fierce that athletes/competitors will kill themselves trying to win.

This also fosters a need for tribes. The colony must be split into separate colonies, each with their own culture/ethos. Separate buildings, with ample space in between. Common areas where colonizers can associate briefly in passing but not have to live on top of each other.

It is the only way.

I lean toward the ‘space is grift’ end of the spectrum, but it was a very vivid dream in which I was told to deliver the message.

I thought I was in Arizona because everything outside the contained area was red.

In the contained area was very green/leafy. Lots of water flowing in the common areas.

Round buildings with 4 floors in the middle gutted to form the gardens. I wondered why they weren’t on the roof?

The girl I was talking to insisted that the competitions were the central-focus of their existence. That before them, colonizers went mad in short order.

It was also a commune with all inhabitants of each building enjoying the spoils of their best and brightest.

There was a communal learning area where everyone would push each other to new platitudes of education.

Those that didn’t excel in the areas of sport or education spent more time in the garden. Everyone had a place and a purpose.
