Engineering is a much more difficult task though… not many people have the deep thought minds needed for it. It requires a special kind of person - the difference a small team of top tier engineers can out perform a 1000 strong team of average people by a long way.
Most of the trades can be picked up by anyone with a good grade 12 education.
A roof is very straightforward if you understand how water flows… make sure you overlap every flashing and shingle from top to bottom - use step flashing against sidewall with counter flashing. Use a kick out step flashing at the end. Offset shingles by 6 inch and avoid nails in those areas.
Already done it a few times.
