If your currency isnt backed by anything, then you have inflation. Nothing checks its value. If its backed by gold you are not able to just keep printing money. You can only print the amount of money that is backed in reserves. So that keeps people like the federal reserve from just printing cash out of a fucking printer. Hence the reason a can of progressive soup is almost 4 bucks. The more money that is printed and backed by nothing other than pure faith, the higher the cost of goods. And its not like wages will ever keep up because they havent.
