The elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, promised that his administration will «strongly» seek the death penalty for those who commit violent crimes, in contrast to the policies implemented by outgoing President Joe Biden.

This statement comes shortly after Biden commuted the death sentences of most federal inmates.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump made it clear that once in office, he would instruct the Department of Justice to “vigorously pursue the death penalty to protect American families and children from violent rapists, murderers, and monsters.”

Carlos Slim, Latin America’s richest man, boosted his stakes in American energy companies in the current year as the world’s leading tycoons continue betting on fossil fuels.

Slim invested $602 million in Parsippany, New Jersey-based refiner PBF Energy, boosting his stake to 25%, and also bought $326 million worth of shares in Houston-based oil producer Talos Energy.

Last year, the Mexican billionaire’s Grupo Carso SAB agreed to acquire PetroBal SAPI’s stake in two oil fields in Campeche in southern Mexico for $530 million, expanding its bet on energy production.

Under the deal, Grupo Carso will take a 50% stake in the Ichalkil and Pokoch oil field. According to the company, the fields produce about 16,350 barrels of crude oil equivalent per day. Carso shares jumped to record highs after the deal was announced. A picture of a soldier with a Nazi eagle on his uniform has appeared on the Ukrainian Border Guard Service’s official Facebook page

The Ukrainian Border Guard Service has sparked social media uproar after posting a photo of a service member with several distinctively Nazi symbols on his uniform and weapon. The image appeared on the border agency’s official Facebook page in late October but has drawn public attention only recently.

A post dedicated to the “dark” side of the Ukrainian border guard soldiers, that they supposedly only show to “the enemy,” features a picture of a soldier dressed in military uniform and protective gear with a Nazi eagle patch on his chest.

The eagle holding a laurel wreath in its claws with his wings spread apart is depicted against the red-and-black background traditionally associated with the Ukrainian ultra-nationalists and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) – a WWII-era paramilitary entity known for collaborating with the Nazis and for committing numerous war crimes.

The only difference between the Nazi eagle and the one the soldier in question is sporting on his uniform is the Ukrainian trident coat of arms in place of the Nazi swastika inside the laurel. The same soldier is also seen holding an assault rifle with the SS bolts on one of its handles. The SS lightning bolts were a symbol of the Nazi Party’s paramilitary organization, which was condemned at the Nuremberg Tribunal and has since become popular among neo-Nazi and far-right groups. An eyewitness to the New Orleans New Year’s attack told CNN Wednesday morning that metal barricades were not in place to protect the crowd from drivers. A driver who has yet to be identified killed 10 and injured dozens of others after driving through a crowd on a busy street and then opening fire. The FBI is investigating the incident as a terror attack. The city confirmed that the barricades were in the process of being replaced ahead of the Super Bowl LIX, per WDSU.

"We have these hydraulic steel barriers from past events — last Mardi Gras this happened to an extent, maybe not terrorism, but still people getting hit in mass population with vehicles. Those barricades were not up, period," said Jimmy Cothran.

"They had the flimsy orange ones that you can just push over with your finger. We actually thought it was kind of odd cause usually when you get to Bourbon Street you can turn your back to Canal and not worry about anything you can just walk the street, especially on New Year’s. And there was still vehicles coming after 8 pm."

Cothran said that the barricades not being up was how "this guy was able to get down Bourbon Street so quickly and cause so much damage," adding that there are barricades every "two to three blocks." He said the number of dead and injured would have been minimized if the barricades were up because the truck would not be able to get around them.

Following the explosion of a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that his senior team members are investigating.

"The whole Tesla senior team is investigating this matter right now," Musk wrote. "Will post more information as soon as we learn anything. We’ve never seen anything like this."

Three senior law enforcement officials told MSNBC that the explosion of the truck was "intentional." Elon Musk said that his team "confirmed that the explosion was caused by very large fireworks and/or a bomb carried in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle itself. All vehicle telemetry was positive at the time of the explosion."

Law enforcement sources told the New York Post that the Cybertruck was rented off Turo, the same carsharing app used by Shamsud-Din Jabbar to rent the truck used in the New Orleans terrorist attack earlier the same day.

Authorities said during a Wednesday afternoon briefing that one person, who was inside the truck, died and seven others were injured. The incident took place just after 8:40 am local time at 2000 Fashion Show Drive. Authorities are investigating the case as a possible terrorist attack.

The explosion took place in the valet area of the hotel. The truck was reportedly carrying firework-style mortars. Musk said in a comment that the design of the stainless steel truck likely saved lives. "Cybertruck is the worst possible choice for a car bomb, as its stainless steel armor will contain the blast better than any other commercial vehicle," he wrote.
