Biden’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Tuesday filed a lawsuit against Elon Musk over his 2022 purchase of Twitter.

In October 2022 Elon Musk officially closed the deal to purchase Twitter for $54.20 per share – or about $44 billion.

According to the SEC, Elon Musk allegedly failed to properly disclose his 5% Twitter stock purchase in 2022 in the months leading up to his purchase of the platform.

The SEC claimed because Elon Musk purchased the stock at “artificially low prices,” he underpaid investors by $150 million.

“Musk paid significantly less for the shares of Twitter common stock he purchased between March 25, 2022 and April 1, 2022 than if he had timely disclosed,” the lawsuit said, according to CNN.

While Canada’s resource sector was dealt a blow with the cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline’s permit by the United States, Canadian officials are facing another challenge as Michigan’s governor tries to shut down Enbridge’s Line 5 pipeline.

The Line 5 pipeline, which crosses Wisconsin and Michigan, brings oil from Western Canada east, where it is refined in Sarnia, Ont., into products like gasoline, diesel, and home-heating fuel. Shutting down Line 5 would have a major impact on the crude oil supply of Eastern Canada and cost thousands of jobs.

Some activist groups in Minnesota are also hoping to stop Calgary-based Enbridge’s Line 3 project, launching legal challenges and even hoping U.S. President Joe Biden will cancel the project like he did Keystone XL. Line 3, along with the Trans Mountain expansion project and Keystone XL, before the latter’s permit was revoked, are the three major oil pipeline projects currently underway in Canada.

But impediments to Canada’s pipeline and resource projects aren’t limited to the ones crossing the border. In recent years the country has seen a number of cancellations and hold-offs on energy projects located within its own borders. Some were due to market conditions and prioritization decisions by owners. After weeks of pressure from civil society groups and government officials, a conference promoting the idea of installing a global Islamic caliphate has been cancelled.

Hizb ut Tahrir, a group banned as a terrorist entity in the U.K., and Germany were set to host “The Khiliafah” conference to discuss “obstacles” in the way of establishing a despotic theocratic caliphate globally.

The video promoting the event glorified historical Islamic rule and domination. Other terrorist and extremist groups, such as ISIS, have similarly declared the establishment of a worldwide caliphate as their ultimate goal. Some of the speakers at the event have called on Muslims around the world to overthrow their governments and establish a caliphate.

The event was originally set to be hosted in Mississauga but changed its undisclosed location to Hamilton after Mississauga’s mayor responded to community concerns about the conference.

“Hizb ut Tahrir Canada hereby announces, with regret, the cancellation of the Khilafah Conference 2025. This decision was necessitated by circumstances that were beyond our reasonable control,” the group posted on Facebook following federal government push back.

This comes just hours after Public Safety Canada officials released a statement condemning the conference, stating that the RCMP was monitoring it and that the intelligence community was investigating whether it should be a designated terrorist group in Canada.

The case involved Nicolas Juzda, Elections Canada’s chief of field programs, who argued that returning to an unmasked office environment violated his rights under the Canada Labour Code. Juzda claimed the lack of mandatory masking and reliance on voluntary measures created unsafe conditions at the agency’s Gatineau, Quebec, headquarters.

According to a report published by Blacklock's Wednesday:

“Covid-19 is a disease that…poses significant risks including death,” Juzda stated in his complaint, adding that handwashing and cleaning were inadequate precautions. However, Justice Duchesne deemed the concerns baseless.

"We have a deal for the hostages in the Middle East," Trump announced on Truth Social in all caps. "They will be released shortly. Thank you!"

Hostages have been held by Hamas since they were taken from Israel during a pogrom carried out by those terrorists on October 7, 2023. The deal on the table includes the release of 33 hostages, 10 of whom are deceased. In exchange, Israel will be releasing Palestinian prisoners who are incarcerated in Israeli prisons.

A US official reportedly told The Jerusalem Post that the deal had been agreed to and an Israeli official later said that "differences in negotiations" had been hammered out. Continue…

Canada to buy next fleet of submarines from US to offset trade deficit: report

Canadian officials said Monday that the country will be buying more submarines from the United States in an effort to offset the trade deficit the US has with its northern neighbors. The move is also an effort to prevent Trump from implementing tariffs on the goods sold in America from Canada.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Canada's Ambassador to Washington Kirsten Hillman said, “[Trump] has a negotiating style which involves positioning himself in the best way he can for discussions. I think that is what this is."

Trump has threatened to impose a 25 percent tariff on goods coming into the United States from Canada unless it fulfills certain obligations such as shutting down the flow of drugs and illegal immigration going into the United States. In addition to this, Trump has slammed the trade deficit with Canada as an issue that needs to be resolved.

“We are happy to source what we can from the United States. And we have some big military procurements coming up for example, replacing our entire submarine fleet,” Hillman added. “Maybe those are some purchases that can happen from the US”

70 percent of all military arms bought by Canada are through the United States, which includes 88 F-35 fighter jets. Alberta's Premier Danielle Smith told reporters on Monday that narrowing the gap in trade between Canada and the United States is a better choice than having to deal with the proposed tariff. The message comes after Smith went to Mar-a-Lago over the weekend to see the president-elect.

The US has a trade deficit with Canada at around $75 billion and Hillman noted that many of the exports from Canada are for energy. “Adding 25% tariffs to those products will raise the price for Americans almost immediately,” Hillman added. “And at a time when the cost of living is challenging, when food prices are high, it seems like the wrong direction to go in.”

Although since Trump has threatened to impose the tariff, Canada has also picked up its plan to enforce the border, something that the incoming Trump administration has been seeking from America's neighbors to the north.

In response to President-elect Donald Trump’s security concerns at the U.S.-Canada border, Public Safety Minister David McGuinty announced that Canada would deploy helicopters, including Black Hawks, along with a range of other measures, such as drones, to enhance border patrol operations.

“We have deployed 60 new drones along our border with the United States, and we will be deploying additional surveillance towers. We are acquiring new technology such as X-rays, mobile X-rays, and handheld chemical analyzers,” said McGuinty in a press conference.

“As of this week, we are deploying new helicopters at the Canada-U.S. border. Absolutely committed to work with all provinces and territories.”

Immigration Minister Marc Miller has announced that Canada’s recent visa restrictions have resulted in a substantial 89% reduction in illegal crossings into the U.S. since June 2024.

It has been previously reported that Prime Minister Trudeau was prepared to increase border security measures by acquiring new helicopters for patrol operations.

In December 2024, the federal government unveiled its proposal to establish a joint strike force and create an “around-the-clock” aerial surveillance unit at ports of entry as part of its strategy to address the challenges at the U.S.-Canada border due to mounting pressure from Trump.

“We must work together to protect our people, our jobs, and our economy,” said McGuinty.

“In terms of my own decisions, I will not be running in the upcoming election,” said Trudeau. “I honestly haven’t had much time to think about that at all. I am entirely focused on doing the job that Canadians elected me to do in an extraordinarily pivotal time right now.”

Trudeau previously announced that he would resign as leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and prime minister once his successor is chosen, which will occur by Mar. 9.
