Marion County, West Virginia, has launched an advanced surveillance system as part of its smart city initiative, featuring cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technologies developed by biometrics technology firm ROC. The system, called Vision AI, integrates AI-driven video analytics with existing security infrastructures, including license plate readers and bodycams, to deliver continuous, real-time monitoring.

The systemโ€™s features include AI-powered facial recognition, license plate tracking, and object detection capabilities, such as identifying firearms or other suspicious items. According to a report by Biometric Update, the initiative is funded through a $1 milliongrant from the Department of Justice, with support from U.S. Senators Joe Manchin and Shelly Moore Capito. Marion County Sheriff Jimmy Riffle spearheaded the effort on behalf of law enforcement.
