Pentagon Repatriates Guantánamo Detainee Held Without Charge for Over Two Decades

The move came as the Biden administration faced pressure to clear the notorious military prison of all uncharged detainees before Donald Trump takes office.

The man, 59-year-old Ridah bin Saleh al-Yazidi, had been held at Guantánamo since the day former U.S. President George W. Bush opened the prison camp in 2002. The Pentagon said in a statement Monday that al-Yazidi has been repatriated to the government of Tunisia.

With al-Yazidi's transfer, there are now 26 detainees remaining at Guantánamo, the majority of whom have never been charged with a crime and have been approved for release from the prison, which United Nations experts have said is "defined by the systematic use of torture and other cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment." More detainees have died at Guantánamo than have been convicted of a crime, according to the human rights group Reprieve.

Portland DA Tries To Reduce Sentences For Convicts Days Before Tough-On-Crime Replacement Takes Over

Portland’s leftist district attorney is trying to reduce the sentences for several violent prisoners, including a convicted murderer just days before his tough-on-crime replacement takes over.

Mike Schmidt, district attorney of Multnomah County, was voted out of office on Election Day last month, but that has not stopped him from petitioning an Oregon judge to reduce or get rid of charges for eight people, some convicted of murder, violent assaults, or robbery, The Oregonian reported.

Schmidt will be replaced by Nathan Vasquez, who has promised a tougher approach to crime in the Portland area.

“These have all the appearance of a last-minute giveaway,” Vasquez said of his predecessor’s petitions for lenience. “They’re extremely violent individuals who have committed horrible crimes, and they’re being given some kind of a break.”

Vasquez starts his term January 6.

Districts attorneys and convicts can petition a judge together to reconsider a conviction and reduce a prison sentence, according to a 2021 state law. This can result in a judge releasing a convict from prison.

One convict petitioning the court is Frank F. Swopes Jr., who was convicted of murder, robbery, burglary, kidnapping, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and eluding police in 1993 when he was 30.

Swopes was convicted of killing a 75-year-old woman by asphyxiation as he and another person robbed her Portland home. She died after his fellow robber pushed her to the ground when Swopes said to “keep her quiet,” the case found. The robbers took her wedding ring and $8.

Swopes then robbed another 76-year-old woman a week later, tying her to a bed frame. He “terrorized” her until she gave him her ATM code, “touched her sexually” and took her robe off, “at which point she believed he either urinated or ejaculated on her,” documents say. Swopes had a cocaine habit, court documents said.

Another convict petitioning the court is Shane Ebberts, 46, who along with two friends attacked two community college students with a mallet handle when he was 16. He served seven years and got out of prison in 2003 and is now married and runs his own general contracting company.

However, Ebberts wants a judge to let him withdraw his guilty plea and enter a new guilty plea to the lesser charge of attempted second-degree assault. Two years ago, his defense lawyer tried to get his conviction changed to the lesser charge so Ebberts could then apply to get the lesser charge expunged.

Both of the victims in that case, the community college students who were attacked, are opposed to throwing out the more serious convictions, the petition notes.

Other convicts petitioning the court include a man convicted of robbing a pub and firing a gun at the floor with nine people inside, two women with child neglect convictions, a man who delivered drugs near a school, another burglar, and a man who delivered heroin.

Schmidt told The Oregonian that the petitions are similar to others he has supported this year.

His office stands “for more than just convictions – but striving for justice,” Schmidt said.

“We have an established and extensive process, including input from our community advisory board. Each of these petitions have been considered in a thorough process over a number of months,” he told the outlet. “This is the same work we’ve been doing throughout my term.”

The covid-19 pandemic was an illusion; those in power deliberately ignored science to impose their will on populations to dominate and control them

“There’s no way that they cared about people. There’s no way that they wanted to apply methods to minimise harm. It’s the opposite. They wanted to apply methods to oppress and be dominant and impose their will on entire populations. That was the goal,” Dennis Rancourt said in a recent interview about the covid “pandemic.”

Rancourt argues that the science behind the pandemic was manipulated and the results were published in top journals controlled by those in power, with 99% of medical trials being false and funded by the industry. His research focuses on the idea of “biological stress-induced transmissionless spontaneous bacterial pneumonia,” a self-infection caused by environmental stress, as a primary aspect of the pandemic.

He offers a new perspective on the germ-terrain theory dynamic and its implications for our understanding of the covid pandemic.

Abductions, extra-judicial killings mount in Syria under HTS rule

Some 400 kidnappings and killings have been reported since the government of Bashar al-Assad was toppled in early December

Nine civilians were kidnapped and executed by unknown gunmen in the Syrian cities of Homs and Jableh, as revenge killings continue in the wake of President Bashar al-Assad's ousting earlier this month, Sputnik News reported on 31 December.

Local sources speaking with Sputnik stated that "six civilians were kidnapped in the Abbasiya neighborhood in the city of Homs on 29 December by unknown gunmen. Their bodies were found after they were executed by firing squad on the outskirts of the city of Homs. Five of them were from the same family."

The sources reported further that the bodies of three people who were executed by firing squad were found in the coastal city of Jableh. The victims included a man in his seventies and his son in his thirties. An armed group abducted them and took them to an unknown location two weeks ago.

The sources added that four young men in the city of Homs were kidnapped by masked gunmen riding two four-wheel drive vehicles on Monday. Their fate is unknown.

In the countryside of Latakia, the western countryside of Hama, and Aleppo, a further 15 people have been kidnapped in the past 48 hours, Sputnik added.

Violence has also been reported in the Damascus countryside.

Security forces of the new Syrian government led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) carried out a raid in a town in the Damascus countryside, killed its mayor, and arrested 30 people, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on Tuesday.

"Yesterday, the town of Ras al-Ma'arra in the western Qalamoun region in the Damascus countryside witnessed a raid carried out by armed groups affiliated with the General Security in the Military Operations Department amid heavy gunfire," SOHR stated.

Medical sources speaking with Sputnik say that some 400 kidnappings and killings have been reported across Syria since militants from HTS toppled the Syrian government led by Bashar al-Assad on 8 December.

Many victims are members of Bashar al-Assad's Alawite sect.

The HTS leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, became Syria's de facto leader and has formed a caretaker government. Sharaa was formerly a deputy of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in Iraq. He traveled to Syria in 2011 on Baghdadi's orders to found the Nusra Front, which later became HTS.

The HTS-led Syrian government has required all members of the previous government's army and security forces to turn in their weapons and undergo a reconciliation process to ensure they have not committed any acts HTS considers as crimes.

Far-right Israeli minister Shlomo Karhi storms Al-Aqsa Mosque compound

This was the second such provocation in recent days after national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir’s appearance at the site last week.

Israel's far-right communications minister, Shlomo Karhi, and a group of extremist settlers have stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Sunday in what was the second such provocation at the holy site in less than a week.

The pro-settler minister entered the tunnels below the Western Wall and performed a prayer for Israeli soldiers in Gaza.

"When Israeli soldiers are victorious in all directions, I am reminded of the words of the Midrash [Jewish religious texts]: 'The gates of Jerusalem will reach to the gates of Damascus'," he wrote on X.

The move triggered condemnation from Hamas which described it as "dangerous".

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry similarly criticised what it said were the "provocative and escalating" actions by members of the Israeli government.

32% of bitcoin is held by just 20 entities. This sh*t is more centralized than the Fed.

“They want your retirement money. They want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street, and you know something? They’ll get it. They’ll get it all from you, sooner or later, ’cause they own this fucking place. It’s a big club, and you ain’t in it.”

~George Carlin

The point of this post is that bitcoin doesn’t meet it’s original mission of decentralization or self custody. To further that point, something like 99.99% of transactions happen off chain. The tech is garbage.

Top Cardiologist Raises Alarm: Current ‘Bird Flu’ Strain Was ‘Man-Made’ in U.S Biolab

A world-renowned cardiologist is raising the alarm after uncovering evidence that the current strain of “bird flu” is “man-made” and was developed in an American biolab using dangerous “gain-of-function” research.

The warning was issued by Dr. Peter McCullough, one of the world’s leading medical experts.

During an appearance on InfoWars, McCullough warned that the current strain of “bird flu” – H5N1 – is a “man-made problem” that was developed in Georgia.

McCullough explains that a peer-reviewed study traced the origins of the strain to the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory (SEPRL) in Athens, GA.

Researchers believe the gain-of-function research is also tied to the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

According to McCullough, the gain-of-function research sought to modify “bird flu” to allow it to jump to humans and spread through the general public.

“Bird flu, or H5N1 influenza, has been around for over a hundred years,” McCullough noted on InfoWars.

“It’s well documented in the scientific literature in the United States.

“This most recent outbreak, which is now four years old, […] the current strain of bird flu, is a product of gain-of-function research done in the USDA Poultry Research Laboratory in Athens, Georgia.

“So, it is a man-made problem that our farms are experiencing right now.”

McCullough continues by explaining that the U.S. federal government has been trying to modify the virus so it can spread rapidly through humans and other animals.

“The stated goal of the USDA in doing this research was simply to get it to jump from chickens into mallard ducks,” he explains.

“And that way, it can spread all over.”

McCullough then called on President Donald Trump’s incoming administration to crack down on supposedly illegal gain-of-function research.

“So it’s a bad line of thinking to continue to do gain-of-function research,” he said.

“And, I hope, under the new administration, one of the very first steps taken by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, the CDC… would be to do an all-out ban on gain-of-function research, certainly in U.S. labs and our funding of what happens outside of the United States.

“Because we know it’s not just the government that funds this research but also the Gates Foundation, [and] many other pro-vaccine foundations are ramping up gain-of-function research.

“Even in the initial spending bill that the U.S. House of Representatives had, that [Speaker] Mike Johnson initially presented, there were 12 more U.S. biolabs proposed.”

Frantic hunt for 'unknown abuser' breaking babies bones at Virginia hospital after seven infants in NICU are found with fractures

A Virginia hospital has closed its neonatal intensive care unit after seven premature babies suffered mysterious injuries by an unknown abuser who remains on the loose.

A couple has spoken out after an unidentified staff member at Henrico Doctors' Hospital in Richmond fractured their newborn's leg during his time at the NICU, as discovered by the state's child services.

Authorities opened a probe into the inexplicable fractures after four babies were injured in the summer of 2023 and three more were hurt in November and December of this year, as reported by WTVR.

Dominique and Tori Hackey were one of the parents affected after they welcomed their twin boys, Noah and Micah, at the hospital in August 2023.

Noah was doing well until Dominique noticed his left leg was not moving.

'It was kind of discolored, I told the doctor on staff, got some x-rays, and we determined he had a fracture to his leg, so we are going to splint it for the next two weeks, and then she was like do you want to hold him?' Dominique told WTVR.

The couple said they did not want to hold Noah for fears the hospital would blame them for the injury.

'In my mind I’m like, I don’t want them to turn it around on us and say we broke his leg or anything like that so I was like no, we don’t want to hold him, we are just going to process this,' Dominique added.

Biden moving to ban oil and gas leases for 20 years in Nevada region, just weeks before Trump inauguration

The proposal now heads into a 90-day public comment period

The Biden administration is attempting to implement last-minute restrictions on oil and gas drilling in the west just weeks before President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration.

On Monday, the Department of the Interior announced plans to pursue a 20-year ban on oil and gas leases in 264,000 acres of Nevada's Ruby Mountains.

The administration submitted an application to withdraw the acreage from any potential leasing, which initiated a two-year ban on new mineral leases in the area during the approval process. The proposal now heads into a 90-day public comment period, which will fall under the Trump administration.

"The Ruby Mountains are an iconic landscape with exceptional recreation opportunities and valuable fish and wildlife habitat worth preserving for the future," Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in a statement. "Today’s action honors the voices of Tribal communities and conservation and sportsmen’s groups and marks another important step to protect a treasured landscape."

Fears of an all-out war erupting between Afghanistan and Pakistan are rising after the Taliban sent troops to the border as the two countries continue to trade deadly strikes.

The Afghan Taliban has unleashed a series of devastating artillery strikes on Pakistani military checkpoints along the tense border, sparking fears of a full-blown conflict between the two neighbours.

The hardline Islamist group boasted it had obliterated 'several' Pakistani positions and mobilised battalions of fighters to confront any retaliation from Islamabad, in a chilling show of force.

The attacks come in response to Pakistani airstrikes targeting the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an ally of the Afghan Taliban, in eastern Afghanistan.
