Sándor Pethő was a Hungarian publicist, historian, and the founding editor-in-chief of Magyar Nemzet. In 1918 he was one of the founding members of the Hungarian Territorial Defense League. In 1938, together with Gyula Hegedüs , he became the founder and editor-in-chief of the daily Magyar Nemzet , which played a significant role in the fight against Hitler's National Socialists and the Hungarian far-right Arrow Cross movements.
He published numerous historical and political studies in various journals, including Endre Bajcsy-Zsilinszky's political weekly Előőrs . In his studies, he often took a conservative but anti-German stance in line with his legitimist views. He later also left the Hungarian Nation . He was a member of the Hungarian Mickiewicz Society , which aimed to foster Polish-Hungarian relations. In the summer of 1940, he was the victim of a car accident in Mussolini Square in Balatonfüred, suffering a cervical spine fracture.
His first wife was Margit Tanács, whom he married on August 18, 1910 in Cluj-Napoca, and from this marriage he had two children: Tibor and Mária. His second wife was actress Lujza Székely.
