Opinion: Trump said he wants to buy Greenland to start. He starts at a level that will never happen. In "The Art of the Deal" starts out with the most outrageous negotiation. He then negotiates down abc further down to the real deal he wanted.
I think even though ==Greenland seems mad or outraged about this situation, they still creating similar principles on how the Founding Fathers did. At first Greenland created and is finalizing their constitution, it seems similar to America's.
I wouldn't doubt they mirrored ours, because "Freedom" is used, that's what they want. And why all of a sudden are they writing their Constitution, they've owned by Denmark for decades or more?.
We know Denmark have been treated the people like deplorables, they did nothing for them and their island for a long time, until Trump spoke about buying it.
Denmark only wanted the island, they don't want the people. But the US would care for the people.
What if Trump and the leader talking about being a territory, province or a state, not owned by the US but part of the US, in an independent way. Or a Treaty!
Read all the words they use in the article, seems like it's repeating exactly what the founding fathers said, and much of the ideas are written in our own Constitution.
Is it possible Greenland would want to be part of the US, but they cannot be slaves that are ignored as they are now. I'm sure there are a country, or two that would want to be part of America under Trump, Greenland being the first would be a badge of honor. Maybe starting out with a treaty would work.
There are various means for use of another state lands, there are various ways to recompense the state but if the state is the territory of another state/country there is an exchange of value. Since Greenland is "owned" by Denmark, therefore for the US to get access to Greenland they may enter into a treaty of exchange. I actually think Greenland would enjoy being a territory of the USA. Their concern might be is our reign over the island and people. If Trump allows their way of life with no change, and money to build out the lead, without a 100% ownership as a stake I think there's s deal to be made. Various ways to do this without buying the island.
Greenland Prime Minister Múte Egede announced a desire to obtainindependence from Denmarkin the wake of President-elect Trump’s comments about buying the island territory.
“The Greenlandic people’s opportunity for independence has been adopted through the provisions of theSelf-Government Act, thereby creating a legal basis for how independence can be achieved,” Egede said in a Wednesday speech in honor of the new year.
“A draft constitutionfor our country has also been prepared,” he said. “Work has already begun with regard to creating the framework for Greenlandas an independent statewithin the possibilities and provisions of the Self-Government Act.”
The leader said anew developmentfor Greenland is “imminent” days after Trump took a second pass at purchasing the land, which sits in the prominent Arctic region.
“For purposes ofNational Security and Freedomthroughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity,” Trump said in a Dec. 22 Truth Social post.
Egede hit back in a statement, declaring Greenland was not for saleand would undertake every effort to not be acquired by the U.S.
“Greenland is ours. We are not for sale and will never be for sale.We must not lose our long struggle for freedom,” Egede said.
His New Year’s Day speech emphasized theautonomous territory’s developments, highlighting its opening of an international airport as a global pathway to change.
“In the coming summer, it will now be possible to reach us directly from other countries, without first traveling via Denmark, it will therefore be possible for us to develop and govern our country moreindependently,” he added.
He declared that new airports in Ilulissat and Qaqortoq were the next step in a process for an “improved” and “flexible” infrastructure that could bolster tourism and trade.
Egede concluded his speech with well wishes for a prosperous new year.
