Biden Releases Gitmo Terrorists To Oman
In yet another move to tarnish his presidential legacy while channeling his former boss Barack Obama, Joe Biden has authorized the transfer of 11 Gitmo terrorists to Oman. The Middle Eastern nation has agreed to assist with their resettlement and oversee security monitoring.
We've seen this before and we know how it usually turns out.
"The United States appreciates the willingness of the government of Oman and other partners to support ongoing U.S. efforts focused on responsibly reducing the detainee population and ultimately closing the Guantanamo Bay facility," the Department of Defense said in a statement. This transfer leaves a mere 15 detainees at Gitmo.
"In recent weeks, the Pentagon had transferred out four other detainees from Guantanamo including a detainee who was brought to the detention facility at the base in Cuba the day that it opened, but was never charged," ABC News reports.
The transfer of the 11 Yemeni detainees is the largest transfer to take place under President Joe Biden's administration.
Of the remaining 15 detainees still at Guantanamo Bay, three are eligible for transfer; three are eligible for a Periodic Review Board; seven are involved in the military commissions process; and two detainees have been convicted and sentenced by military commissions.
Among the detainees who will remain at Guantanamo is Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, the alleged mastermind of the 9/11 attack, who on Friday will appear at a hearing at the base where he is expected to plead guilty in return for the death penalty being withdrawn. The following week, two other 9/11 plotters are expected to plead guilty under the same plea agreement.
A statement from the Pentagon revealed that on September 15, 2023, Austin officially notified Congress of his plans to transfer the 11 Yemeni detainees to Oman. In coordination with Omani authorities, all necessary preparations for the transfer were successfully carried out.

This news comes on the heels of a military appeals court upholding the decision that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin could not undo the plea agreements made with Mohammad, Walid Muhammad Salih Mubarak bin ’Attash, and Mustafa Ahmed Adam al Hawsawi.
According to NPR, "Monday’s transfers were originally scheduled to happen in October 2023, but were halted at the last minute due to concerns in Congress about instability in the Middle East following the Hamas attack on Israel."
However, the fact that the plan was "resurrected during President Biden’s final two weeks in office signals a last-ditch effort by his administration to shrink Guantánamo’s prisoner population and get closer to his goal of trying to close the facility."
We’ve seen this story unfold time and time again, and we can all make a pretty good guess as to how this will play out. Each one of these terrorists will inevitably return to the battlefield, further endangering American lives and destabilizing the region. So why, after nearly four years in office, is Joe Biden making this decision now? Why didn’t he act sooner—perhaps when he first took office or before the 2024 election? The Glaring Hypocrisy And Embedded Deceptions Of The Global Food Giants
The interconnected relationship between the corporations that produce ultra processed foods and the pharmaceutical industry creates a revolving door wherein investment firms can profit off of both illness and treatment.
Bryce Martinez (18) from Pennsylvania is mounting a legal challenge against major food companies, alleging that their ultra-processed foods (UPFs) led to his development of Type 2 diabetes and fatty liver disease at the age of 16.
The 11 firms listed in the lawsuit are Kraft Heinz, Mondelez, Coca-Cola, Post Holdings, PepsiCo, General Mills, Nestle’s (US), WK Kellogg, Mars, Kellanova and Conagra.
UPFs have undergone multiple processing steps and often contain additives, preservatives and artificial ingredients. These UPFs have become staples in many households. Examples of UPFs are prepackaged soups, many breakfast cereals, sauces, frozen pizza, ready-to-eat meals, hot dogs, sausages, sodas, ice cream and store-bought cookies, cakes, candies and doughnuts.
Martinez’s legal team contends that the big food corporations have deliberately engineered their products to trigger addictive responses. His lawyers at Morgan & Morgan, a major US law firm, says the case is unprecedented and includes claims for conspiracy, negligence, fraudulent misrepresentation and unfair business practices.
Martinez had regularly consumed popular UPFs throughout his childhood. The lawsuit challenges the food industry’s argument that consumers have free choice in their dietary decisions. It argues that the notion of free choice is compromised by aggressive marketing tactics, especially aimed at children, and the addictive nature of these products.
UPFs are highly profitable for corporations. The same companies that dominate the UPF market are intertwined with investment firms like BlackRock and Vanguard, which also hold stakes in the pharmaceutical industry. This dual investment creates a cycle where investment firms profit from both the sale of harmful foods and the treatment of diseases associated with these products.
Furthermore, the prevailing economic system creates a paradoxical situation where workers, whose pension funds are often managed by these same investment giants, find themselves financially tethered to a cycle that undermines their own health and well-being.
There is a famous quote often attributed to farmer, poet and campaigner Wendell Berry:
People are fed by the food industry, which pays no attention to health, and are treated by the health industry, which pays no attention to food.”
For a long time, that has served both industry’s interests very well.

The influence that giant corporations have on the food system is encapsulated by the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI). Presenting itself as an independent scientific organisation, across the world, from China to India, the ILSI plays a crucial role in promoting narratives that benefit its corporate funders.
According to the report Partnership for an Unhealthy Planet (Corporate Accountability, 2020), political interference by food and beverage transnationals like Coca-Cola, McDonald’s, Nestlé and PepsiCo is pervasive. The report shows how these corporations have leveraged the ILSI to cripple progress on nutrition policy across the globe.

D.C. Cardinal: Mass Deportation of Illegals ‘Incompatible with Catholic Doctrine’
The newly appointed Catholic archbishop of Washington, DC, said Monday that President Trump’s plans for deporting illegal immigrants is “incompatible with Catholic doctrine.”
Cardinal Robert McElroy, recognized as one of the most progressive bishops in the U.S. episcopacy and a vocal Trump critic, noted in a press conference that the Catholic Church teaches that “a country has the right to control its borders” and that “our nation’s desire to do that is a legitimate effort.”
“At the same time,” he continued, “we are called always to have a sense of the dignity of every human person. And thus, plans which have been talked about at some levels of having a wider indiscriminate massive deportation across the country would be something that would be incompatible with Catholic doctrine.”
“So, we’ll have to see what emerges in the administration,” he added.
The cardinal did not elaborate on which elements of Catholic doctrine he believes prohibit the deportation of migrants who enter a country illegally.
Pope Francis’s decision to move a noted liberal bishop to the nation’s capital surprised even progressive observers, such as Massimo Faggioli, who teaches at Villanova University.
Faggioli said:
Many of us thought he was too progressive to be the archbishop of Washington, D.C., and that appointing him to the nation’s capital was going to be too bold, too strong a statement, because he is far more progressive than the center of the [U.S. Bishops] on gay rights, synodality, immigrants, on almost anything.
But Patricia McGuire, president of Trinity Washington University, said she believes McElroy is “the right bishop at the right time for Washington, D.C.”
McElroy’s words on immigration enforcement signal that the new archbishop will be “a very strong voice to counter the horrors that the Trump administration says it is planning to do,” McGuire said.
Predictably, the dissident “Catholic” LGBTQ+ advocacy group New Ways Ministry offered a glowing appraisal of the pope’s decision to place McElroy in the nation’s capital, saying it is thrilled with the appointment of such a well-known gay-rights advocate.
New Ways Ministry is “delighted” that Pope Francis has appointed Cardinal Robert McElroy as the next archbishop of Washington, DC, Francis DeBernardo, Executive Director of New Ways Ministry, said.
Cardinal McElroy is a “brilliant theologian” and “astute political analyst,” DeBernardo gushed, and “the perfect person to lead this important archdiocese into the future.”
“Most importantly is that Cardinal McElroy has been appointed to the nation’s capital at a time when a new presidential administration and Congress have strongly indicated that legislation repealing civil rights protections for LGBTQ+ people are at the top of their agendas,” DeBernardo claimed.

Top Trump Official Claims Iran Is the Problem in the Middle East, Vows Crackdown on Pro-Palestinian Protesters
The incoming National Security Adviser Mike Waltz said the Trump administration would target Iran in the Middle East and crack down on pro-Palestian protesters in the US to support Israel.
In an interview with Mark Levin, Waltz explained the “philosophy” of the incoming administration for the Middle East. “The problems in the Middle East by and large originate from Tehran, not from Tel Aviv. We’re going to stand by and support our greatest ally in the Middle East,” he said. “We’re aligned from a national security, intelligence and values standpoint.”
Waltz described this policy as instituting a “complete philosophical, wholesale national security shift.”
“We’re going to align with our ally Israel, we’re going to realign the common interests of the Gulf Arab states with Israel in opposing Iran’s aggression, we’re going to reinstate maximum pressure, we’re going to stop them from selling their illegal oil that has been funding terrorism,” he said. Adding that the US military is “getting worn out shooting missile after missile from this ragtag bunch of Houthis. We’re going to get that under control.”
President Joe Biden has provided Israel with $22 billion in military aid since the October 7 attack. On Friday, Axios reported that Biden was planning to approve a final $8 billion arms sale to Israel. The current White House has also protected Tel Aviv at the UN Security Council and fought a war against the Houthis in Yemen to defend Israel.
Additionally, the Biden administration increased the Trump-era sanctions on Iran and refused to return to the Obama-era nuclear agreement. The White House deployed its most advanced air defense systems to Israel to protect it from a potential Iranian missile attack.
Still, Republicans in Washington and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have attacked Biden for not providing Israel with enough support. The current administration has pushed Tel Aviv to allow most aid into Gaza.
However, Tel Aviv has largely defied Washington’s requests to allow more aid into Gaza. In December aid shipments sunk to 71 trucks per day, far below the number, 500, aid agencies say is needed to prevent deaths of deprivation in Gaza. Gazan children have begun to freeze to death at night as their families shelter in tents.
CNN reports that the incoming administration will be more amenable to Israel’s policies of further restricting aid shipments to Gaza and will further cut deliveries once Trump returns to office.
Waltz went on to say the Trump administration would crack down on pro-Palestinian protesters. The US government will “look at mosques, individuals, universities, professors – you name it – that post a threat to the United States and are radicalizing individuals to harm the United States.” He continued referring of pro-Palestinian campus protesters, people “here on a student visa, with the privilege to study in our universities – you don’t get to protest and radicalize. You’re going to go back home real fast.”
Some of Trump’s America First supporters may view doubling down on US support for Israel as a violation of that policy. Waltz said he believes Trump will be convinced to follow through on the policy points he explained to Levin.
Deals, such as expanding the Abraham Accords, is “what gets President Trump so excited and that’s what makes all of these historic disagreements that have perpetuated for decades, if not centuries, smaller and smaller,” he explained.
On Monday, Trump made remarks to radio host Hugh Hewitt that would suggest Waltz is correct. “Well, I’m the best friend that Israel ever had. You look at what happened with all of the things that I’ve gotten, including Jerusalem being the capital, the embassy getting built,” he stated, adding the provision of military aid to Israel would be “uninterrupted” during his administration.

Israeli Attacks Kill 49 More Palestinians in the Gaza Strip

Other Israeli strikes on Monday included a bombing of a town east of the southern city of Rafah that killed at least two children, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA.
Al Jazeera reported a total of seven Palestinians were killed by Israeli attacks on Rafah. An attack on the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza reportedly killed four Palestinians.
Israel also launched heavy strikes on Gaza City and other areas in the north overnight. According to Al Jazeera, at least six Palestinians were killed in strikes in Gaza City.

US Issues License Allowing Transactions With Syria’s HTS-Led Government
HTS is still designated by the US as a foreign terrorist organization since it's an offshoot of al-Qaeda
The US Treasury Department on Monday issued a six-month general license to waive some sanctions on Syria to allow transactions with the new Syrian government that’s led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, an offshoot of al-Qaeda that’s designated by the US as a foreign terrorist organization.
For years, the US has imposed crippling economic sanctions on Syria that were designed to prevent the country’s reconstruction. The sanctions, which have a devastating impact on Syrian civilians, were part of the regime change effort against former President Bashar al-Assad, which ultimately succeeded when he fled the country on December 8 due to an HTS offensive.
In a press release on the general license, the Treasury Department acknowledged the scope of US sanctions on Syria, saying the country was one of the “most comprehensively sanctioned jurisdictions.” The license does not lift any sanctions but allows certain transactions with the HTS-led government.
According to the document, the general license allows “transactions in support of the sale, supply, storage, or donation of energy, including petroleum, petroleum products, natural gas, and electricity, to or within Syria” and “transactions that are ordinarily incident and necessary to processing the transfer of noncommercial, personal remittances to Syria, including through the Central Bank of Syria.”
The Treasury Department said the purpose of the license is to ensure US sanctions “do not impede activities to meet basic human needs, including the provision of public services or humanitarian assistance,” an acknowledgment that US sanctions have been impeding humanitarian goods.
The US has also lifted a $10 million bounty that it had on the head of HTS’s leader, Abu Mohammed al-Julani, who has been going by his real name, Ahmad al-Sharaa. The US sent Barbara Leaf, a high-level State Department official, to hold a meeting with Julani in Damascus, which she described as “good” and “productive.”
President Biden and other US officials celebrated the regime change in Syria despite the country being taken over by an al-Qaeda-affiliated group. Demonstrating the HTS extremist history, videos have emerged of Syria’s new justice minister, Shadi al-Waisi, overseeing the execution of two women over charges of adultery and prostitution in 2015.

Two elderly women and an off-duty cop were killed and eight Israelis were wounded when Palestinian terrorists opened fire on vehicles as they passed through the village on Monday.
The three perpetrators from the Jenin area of the northern West Bank are still at large.
“The despicable, murderous terror attack that occurred here yesterday is an act of war for all intents and purposes, and it will be answered accordingly,” Katz said in remarks provided by his office.
“We will hit the terrorists and those who sent them, and we will act powerfully against the places from where the terrorists came,” he said.

Louisiana mayor arrested after drug trafficking investigation
A drug trafficking investigation in Bogalusa, Louisiana, has led to the arrest of the city's mayor, Tyrin Truong, and several other people, police said Tuesday.
The Louisiana State Police Narcotics/Violent Crime Task Force began a "comprehensive investigation" into a drug trafficking organization operating in the area in April 2024. Louisiana saw 2,456 drug-involved deaths in 2023, according to state health officials.
The joint task force operation found the organization was distributing various drugs, including opioids, high-grade marijuana, THC products and MDMA. The operation was using social media to distribute drugs and manage payments, officials said. The profits from the drug sales were used to purchase firearms, officials said, and some of those firearms were then funneled to individuals who have been banned from owning them. Some firearms have been linked to violent crimes in the area, police said.
The investigation resulted in the issuance of seven arrest warrants, including for Truong, 25. Truong, who became the city's youngest mayor after he surprisingly defeated incumbent mayor Wendy Perrette in 2022, is facing charges of transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses, unauthorized use of a moveable and soliciting for prostitutes.
The other six people all face charges of transactions involving proceeds from drug offenses. Three of them face charges of conspiracy to distribute a Schedule I controlled substance. Another faces an additional charge of distribution of a Schedule II controlled substance.
Police said all seven will be booked into the Washington Parish Jail. Truong was booked into the jail on Tuesday afternoon, according to online records.
Further information about the case will be released by Louisiana State Police, the agency said, noting that "a variety of other matters and individuals remain under investigation in connection with matters both separate from and related to the subject matter of today's arrests."
"We are going to continue to invest time and resources into helping the citizens of Bogalusa," District Attorney Collin Sims said in a statement. "We are not finished."

Pentagon reaches settlement with more than 35,000 gay and lesbian ex-service members
The historic settlement still has to receive approval from a federal judge.
The Pentagon reached a historic legal settlement with over 35,000 gay and lesbian ex-service members who were discharged due to their sexual orientation.
Under the terms of the agreement announced Monday, the former service members are eligible to receive discharge paperwork that doesn't mention their sexual orientation. If the former service member was refused an honorable discharge, they can immediately receive an upgrade review, according to CBS News.
The federal civil rights lawsuit was initially filed in August 2023. The settlement still has to receive approval from a federal judge.
"When I was discharged because of my sexual orientation, I felt that my country was telling me that my service was not valuable – that I was 'less than' because of who I loved," said Sherrill Farrell, a former member of the Navy who was a plaintiff in the case, according to the CBS News report. "Today, I am once again proud to have served my country by standing up for veterans like myself, and ensuring our honor is recognized."

Judge Throws Out Title VI Suit Against Haverford College Aimed at Silencing Criticism of Israel
A US district judge threw out and mocked a "disingenuous" discrimination lawsuit against Haverford College from a Jewish lawfare group seeking to exploit Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act to silence criticism of Israel on college campuses.
Judge Gerald McHugh, an Obama appointee, had choice words in his ruling on Monday criticizing the group Jews at Haverford, which was being represented by the Deborah Project.
McHugh wrote (as highlighted by Reason):
[A] litany of complaints related in a general way to the same subject—in this instance the serious problem of antisemitism—is not the same thing as a legally cognizable complaint pled in accordance with the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure…
Plaintiffs Jews at Haverford, Alumni Ally Landau, and two anonymous students … allege that over the past year, Haverford College … has become a bastion of antisemitism that is tolerated and at times perpetuated by the College. Plaintiffs contend that they have been personally affected by the eruption of disorder on campus. Specifically, they state that they have lost friends, faced harassment, been forced to change their routines, and missed out on seminal Haverford experiences because of escalated antisemitism. They assert that antisemitism at Haverford has fostered a hostile educational environment in violation of Title VI, and that Haverford has breached certain contractual obligations by failing to deal with campus unrest.
At this stage, a court would typically review the relevant facts. I cannot cogently do so here due to the sprawling and disorganized character of Plaintiffs' Amended Complaint, which appears to detail every frustration and disagreement of Jewish students and faculty that has occurred at Haverford over the last year. It spills pages of ink on lengthy frolics about events on other college campuses and about ideological debates. Rather than isolating instances of harassment and logically relating them to the elements of a hostile environment claim, Plaintiffs set forth a running list of grievances that reads more as an opinion editorial than it does a legal complaint.
Some of the instances alleged are concerning, and if pled properly, could perhaps support a cognizable legal claim under Title VI. Yet, the Complaint is diluted by instances that no reasonable person could construe as intentional discrimination. For example, Plaintiffs contend that Haverford did not announce the month of May as "American Jewish History Month," and instead only celebrated "Asian American/Pacific Islander Month." Or, Plaintiffs complain that some graduating students at the Spring 2024 commencement donned attire that signified their support for Palestinians—a classic example of protected First Amendment expression. Elsewhere, Plaintiffs include comments made by a professor who does not even attend Haverford. As a result of Plaintiffs' scattered pleading, any serious allegations of actionable discrimination are buried as needles within a haystack of distraction.
Plaintiffs also dedicate a full eight pages of their Complaint to their effort to link Judaism to Zionism, while simultaneously insisting that they are not asking the Court to resolve any religious issues. Plaintiffs' equivocation is disingenuous, but likely strategic, seeking to blur the line between Zionism as a political philosophy and Zionism as a component of Jewish identity, and in the process implicitly sweep any and all criticism of Israel into the basket of antisemitism. {Haverford's briefing also suffers from a lack of nuance in failing to distinguish different types of Zionism or anti-Zionism, because in current usage "Zionism" can hold many different meanings. This serves Defendant's strategic purpose of deeming Zionism strictly a political philosophy, implicitly denying it can, depending on context, constitute an element of Jewish identity.} As a threshold matter, as I have done previously {Tannous v. Cabrini Univ. (E.D. Pa. 2023) (upholding termination of professor by university concerned by tone and content of social media posts about Israel)}, I reject Plaintiffs' embedded proposition that any anti-Israel speech is intrinsically antisemitic, because reasonable people acting in good faith can challenge decisions of the Israeli government without harboring antisemitic views. Influencer Lizzy Savetsky and HonestReporting executive director Gil Hoffman were among the 50 awardees at the Knesset’s “Voices of Iron Ceremony” on Tuesday, hosted by Likud MK Dan Illouz.
The ceremony, organized in honor of advocates who defended and continue to defend Israel during the Israel-Hamas War, featured honorees from Israel and abroad. It was attended by members of the coalition and opposition, including Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana.
Ohana opened the ceremony by praising and thanking “the online dream team and our enemies’ ultimate nightmare” for their efforts on the country’s eighth front: global antisemitism.
“Supporting Israel is not about Left or Right. It’s not about political ideology. It’s about truth. It’s about justice; it’s about the fundamental right of a nation to defend its people against slaughter,” Illouz said.
