Bad news, frens…

My mother-in-law’s boyfriend is from the UK, so I asked him what he thought about the “grooming gang scandal”. He actually didn’t know anything about it (and trust me, he’s someone who’s pretty “up to snuff” when it comes to current affairs). After giving him the broad strokes, he looked into it for a few minutes and just kind of shrugged it off. He said this happens everywhere - especially with the Catholic Church. He even politely suggested I tone down the Islamophobia and asked that I never bring up “far right conspiracy theories” again.

With all that being said, how should I respond to him, without burning any bridges?
