Ben Affleck is ready for action, commanding the role of CIA agent Jack Ryan in this thrilling adventure based on the Tom Clancy bestseller. America's Cold War fears are rekindled after the President of Russia dies and is succeeded by a man with a cryptic past. But East-West tensions erupt when the CIA suspects that renegade Russian scientists are developing more nuclear weapons. Mobilized into action by CIA Director William Cabot (Morgan Freeman), Jack Ryan (Affleck) follows a danger-ridden trail to a shocking conclusion: terrorists plan to provoke a war between the U.S. and Russia - by detonating a nuclear bomb at a championship football game! Costarring James Cromwell and Liev Schreiber, The Sum of All Fears adds up to the year's most explosive entertainment.

From Academy Award-winning director Clint Eastwood (モMillion Dollar Baby,ヤ モUnforgivenヤ) comes the World Was II epic "Flags of Our Fathers,ヤ produced by Eastwood, Academy Award winner Steven Spielberg (モSaving Private Ryan,ヤ モSchindlerメs Listヤ), and Rob Lorenz (モMystic Riverヤ). February 1945. Even as victory in Europe was finally within reach, the war in the Pacific raged on. One of the most crucial and bloodiest battles of the war was the struggle for the island of Iwo Jima, which culminated with what would become one of the most iconic images in history: five Marines and a Navy corpsman raising the American flag on Mount Suribachi. The inspiring photo capturing that moment became a symbol of victory to a nation that had grown weary of war and made instant heroes of the six American soldiers at the base of the flag, some of whom would die soon after, never knowing that they had been immortalized. But the surviving flag raisers had no interest in being held up as symbols and did not consider themselves heroes; they wanted only to stay on the front with their brothers in arms who were fighting and dying without fanfare or glory. ムFlags of Our Fathersメ is based on the bestselling book by James Bradley with Ron Powers, which chronicled the battle of Iwo Jima and the fates of the flag raisers and some of their brothers in Easy Company. Bradleyメs father, John モDocヤ Bradley, was one of the soldiers pictured raising the flag, although James never knew the full extent of his fatherメs experiences until after the elder Bradleyメs death in 1994. The ensemble cast of モFlags of Our Fathersヤ includes Ryan Phillippe (モCrashヤ), Jesse Bradford (モHappy Endingsヤ), Adam Beach (モWindtalkersヤ), Paul Walker (モInto the Blueヤ), Jamie Bell (モBilly Elliotヤ), Barry Pepper (モSaving Private Ryanヤ) and John Benjamin Hickey (モFlightplanヤ). Clint Eastwood directed モFlags of Our Fathersヤ from a screenplay adapted by William Broyles, Jr. (モCast Awayヤ) and Oscar winner Paul Haggis (モMillion Dollar Baby,ヤ モCrashヤ).

The United States has not had a draft since 1973, but conscription remains a contingency option:
Conscription history
The U.S. drafted men from 1940 to 1973 to fill military vacancies that could not be filled voluntarily. The draft was ended in 1973, and the U.S. military became all-volunteer.
Selective Service System
All male U.S. citizens and immigrants between the ages of 18 and 25 must register with the Selective Service System (SSS). Failure to register can result in denial of federal services, such as health care programs.
Conscription in an emergency
Congress and the president must authorize a draft in a national emergency. The SSS would then use a lottery system to select eligible young men for induction.
women are not required to register with the Selective Service System:
The Military Selective Service Act only authorizes the registration of "male persons"
Congress would need to pass legislation to amend the law and require women to register
The Supreme Court ruled in 1981 that registering only men did not violate the
Constitution's due process clause
Women have never been subject to the Selective Service or a military draft in the United States
The Selective Service System is open to:
All male U.S. citizens, including those who live abroad
Immigrant men living in the United States, documented or undocumented
US citizens or immigrants who are assigned male at birth and changed their gender to female
Men who register with the Selective Service may be eligible for: Student loans and scholarships, Federal government jobs, State and local government jobs, Free job training under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, and A streamlined process for citizenship.
Men who fail to register may face: A fine of up to $250,000, 5 years imprisonment, and Permanent ineligibility for certain benefits.
