In 2016, in a $900 Million Deal, the China-Based Landbridge Group Acquired Control of the Margarita Island Port, Panama’s Largest Port on the Atlantic Side in the Colón Free Trade Zone.
This Established the Third (3) Set of Locks Through the Canal by Widening and Deepening the Navigation Channels. This Creates the Panama-Colón Container Port (PCCP), a Deep-Water Port for MEGASHIPS, with the Construction/Expansion Lead by the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), and the China Harbor Engineer Company (CHEC).
The Construction/Location of the PCCP has Since Allowed China to Exponential Expand it’s Footprint in the Panama Canal to Include Project like the Amador Convention Center (Pacific Side of Canal), Various Water Management Projects, Numerous Energy Projects i.e. a $900 Million Natural Gas-Fired Electricity Generation Facility and Starting a Fourth Bridge Over the Panamanian Interoceanic Canal in 2018 as Part of the China Belt & Road Initiative. The 4th Bridge Project Slowed in 2020 Due to Covid, but Officially Resumed in June, 2023.
These Various Investments, to Include Port Terminals Made by Chinese Companies on both the East and West Sides of the Panama Canal Signal China’s Intentions/Commitment to Fully Take Advantage this Infrastructure…"
