California Firefighting Fleet Status
California’s firefighting aircraft fleet is one of the largest civil aerial firefighting forces in the world, consisting of over 60 fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. As of January 10, 2025, the fleet includes:
Grumman S-2T Airtankers: 23 aircraft capable of carrying 1,200 gallons of fire retardant or water.
Lockheed C-130H Airtankers: 1 aircraft currently in service, with 6 more on order to be transferred from the US Coast Guard.
Sikorsky S-70 Helicopters: 13 in service, with 3 more on order.
Bell UH-1H Super Huey Helicopters: 12 in reserve.
Rockwell OV-10 Tactical Aircraft: 16 in service.
Beechcraft Super King Air: 2 training aircraft.
North American OV-10A Bronco Air Tactical Aircraft: 16 in service.
