ANOTHER FIRE: A brush fire broke out Friday morning on a hillside in Granada Hills, burning as many as 3 acres as firefighters rushed to attack it. It is being called the "Archer Fire".

The origin point is another parking lot for hiking. ANOTHER ARSON FIRE?

Good lord, another brushfire has now started in Granada Hills. Already approaching homes. Reminder - LA County is down one Super Scooper after a civilian drone crashed into it at the #PalisadesFire.

3.7-magnitude S.F. quake, aftershock centered in same spot as 1906 quake

Many San Franciscans were jolted by a 3.7 magnitude earthquake that struck just after 7 a.m. Friday at what may have been exact same location of San Francisco’s infamous 1906 earthquake.

A 3.0-magnitude jolt — the strongest of several aftershocks — was felt in much of the city shortly at 10:48 a.m., more than three hours after the first quake.

The epicenters of the both the earthquake and the 3.0-magnitude aftershock were detected just offshore near the San Francisco Zoo, according to preliminary data reported by the U.S. Geological Survey. Data from USGS suggests they may have gone off at the precise coordinates of the 7.9-magnitude 1906 earthquake, which ruptured the San Andreas Fault from San Juan Bautista up to Cape Mendocino and set off fires that consumed the city.

All signs so far suggest that Friday morning’s earthquake also took place on the San Andreas Fault, though it will take more time for an official determination, according to USGS geophysicist Sarah Minson.

In 1906, there were no modern day sensors waiting to detect the exact location of what’s still San Francisco’s deadliest and most destructive earthquake. But experts have made an effort to estimate the origin based on reports about damage and shaking from the time, Minson said.

“Our best guess of the 1906 earthquake is that it did start near this location,” she said. But she noted it’s impossible to say for certain whether it was exactly the same place.

It is possible to have repeating earthquakes — similar and almost predictable shaking that happens at the same location on a consistent basis, according to Minson. But the Friday earthquake was not an exact repeat of the 1906 earthquake, to San Francisco’s relief. Minson said repeating earthquakes are often small and extremely rare, only taking place at a few locations across the world.
